Condemn them for the bad, but also praise them for the good. Well done Qatar.

They don’t get praise till they stop doing all the reprehensible shit. Sure we basically enslaved thousands of immigrants but we’re giving away these used trailers we were just going to scrap anyway… nah fuck Qatar

It feels like when a friend buys something, realizes he doesn’t need it or like it and then gives it to you. Nice gesture but still. I wish he had bought something for me rather than think of me for something he doesn’t need anymore. But maybe I’m being too negative about it.

More like when you friend buys some slaves to make something for him and he is done using it and you are in desperate, life or death, need for that something, and he give it to you. And then gets an article sucking him off for it in the media.

Nah, I'm with that guy. This sub of so often has shit posted that isn't really uplifting when you think about it.

The sheikhs have so much money, they could provide new housing to all the victims and that'd barely make a dent in their finances.

Instead they just give away shit they don't need anymore to boost their PR somehow.

I know that technically it's a good thing, but I oppose praising low effort "charity" like that.

Yeah, I can give away my old socks with a hole in one of them if there's a sock crisis in town. But I can well afford a few dozen pairs even without going broke, bah, without this impacting my life significantly. Am I really praise-worthy enough to post news about me giving away my old socks on the Internet? I hardly think so.

didn't say i disagreed with him, in fact i totally agree- its just that reddit has been bombarded with some absolutely depressing and cynical news stories lately and this is one of the few corners of the site i feel like people can visit to get a reprieve and believe for 5 minutes that theres still some good in the world

edit: if you're going to downvote me, check the sub rules- "This subreddit is meant to be a place free of excessive cynicism, negativity and bitterness."

All of the people in here putting a negative spin on this would be condemning Qatar if they just lit them all on fire.

"The earthquake victims could of used them!"

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.

It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.

Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.

Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

That was my thought. I don’t disagree with keeping the sub clean from this kind of comment (my comment).

But if we’re talking cynicism, I think the post itself was the cynical part.

To be honest this is the best thing they could've done with the mobile homes, I bet they'll be a huge help to all those countless lives suffering right now. But still, Qatar=bad

Name one government that hasn’t done some reprehensible shit recently. I’m not saying it makes it ok but I am saying it’s pretty hypocritical to talk shit until you hold your own government to account. I don’t even know where you live but I’m confident there will be some scandal.

Invaderk2 t1_j8slmry wrote

It’s not hypocritical at all. I never said my country was perfect or defended any of its actions in any way, thats you making assumptions that fit your claim. Beyond all that, your argument relies on the premise that no one can offer criticism without some qualifier about literally everything else bad in the word also being bad, that’s absurd.

If you want to call me a hypocrite because you have some proof that I personally, am also grossly abusing immigrant labor then you might have an argument.

I’ll go ahead and assume you don’t have that proof though…

There's no reason to indicate this is any kind of change. They already made these, already spent the money, and already used them for their intended purpose. It's good that they're being sent to go to use but it's literally just a free PR move for them.

They offload lots of bulky, short-term housing they no longer need and get 15 minutes of good press, but how much longer will these things last before they start falling apart??

They literally giving away the homes of the migrants who came to work and build for the World Cup. They just swapping out homeless and poor for homeless in another country who just happen to be Muslim so they matter more
