I've been wanting to set up something like this in my state too. Showers and a laundry for the homeless, and go around letting people get clean. This is a cool idea.

You'd have to hire security. This is a very risky situation for women to get r*ped.

For example, 92% of a large, racially diverse sample of homeless mothers had experienced severe physical and/or sexual violence at some point in their lives (Browne & Bassuk, 1997). Thirteen percent of another sample of homeless women reported having been raped in the past 12 months, and half of these women were raped at least twice (Wenzel, et al., 2000).

Edit: if you're homeless and have even a very small amount of money, get a gym membership and take showers there.

Check out free showers offered in the area first. Many of them are designed to provide a safe showering experience. The modern shower buses are designed for maximum safety, with a single, easy to monitor hallway. If they look sketchy, don't shower there.

That's fantastic. I've never been homeless, but I hitchhiked around the country in 1998 and when you're living in the open, showers are sometimes hard to come by.

Brilliant idea. Sometimes humans actually care about other humans.

Lava Mae has been doing it for close to 10 years in San Francisco and now is on a mission to help and support others to do the same by providing training, seed money, etc.

Because it would be cheaper to provide them with housing, instead of wasting more money in police and repression, but at least they get an RV shower…
