I actually find it funny because a large number of BTS fans are not old enough to even know who ‘Stan’ is.

I find it funny that for us older Korean-Americans, BTS stood for Burning Ttonggumong (Anus) Syndrome before the kpop group came out.

E.g. Taco Bell gave me gnarly BTS

Doesn't this kind of thing usually play out with people coming up with a new "most popular guess" meaning and eventually that becomes an official alternate meaning of the term?

Much to the irritation of people who knew the original meaning already.
