What makes it great is that despite some groups efforts to block book reading, there are still so many more people getting into reading. Especially at a young age. It's heartwarming.

Many governors (mostly in Republican led states) have increased their pace to ban certain books.

Why is a private citizen doing the work of the public schools and of county and state orgs to increase reading among children, in the states? Why are elementary ed libraries and reading programs lacking staffing or funding? That’s a choice.

Dolly Parton’s private philanthropy is wonderful—but why aren’t leaders and educators using taxpayer funding for this, vs paying millions for high football stadiums and locker rooms or for school police forces/guns for troopers drives, vs educational/classroom and teacher funding?

Everything is a choice and everything is political, when it comes to taxes, budgets/funding and education.

that’s technically correct but not practically correct. These governors, pundits, propagandists, etc. have whipped people into such a frenzy, that specific US localities have entirely defunded specific libraries beyond operation to limit access to “certain” materials by limiting access to ALL materials. Technically speaking, a false equivalency; practically speaking, not at all.

That might be true in a reasonable society but Yankia is hardly reasonable. As we see in their abortion rights “debate”, they focus on particular cases until they have the momentum then ban everything. Like the 10yo girl in Ohio, in any reasonable country she would have got a life saving medical intervention, but the ban that supposedly targeted the “women who do it because children are annoying” types was broad enough to included her.

TLDR: they talk about some books, but they want to ban (almost) all books
