Kenya's government is putting a ton of money into startups, and it's done a lot of good for their economy recently. Would love to see other African countries do the same, as there is so much possibility for innovation...African solutions for Africa's problems.

It's actually China who is investing in infrastructure in Kenya.
Basically all road, rail and partially the port is operating on loan from the Chinese government.

'All road' is a bit if a stretch, but the sections of road the Chinese have built certainly were necessary infrastructure upgrades.
That new rail development is quite a mess...really wonder what will become of it.

African countries sees how fucked up dependance on fossil fuels is, and skips that tech.
InformationHorder t1_j1q9pcw wrote
To be fair, they have a golden opportunity to skip all the old stuff because the tech tree got unlocked by everyone else. They'd be stupid not to capitalize.

Honestly. Especially with how much this stuff has changed. I love my electric dirt bike. I’m never going back. I get 50-70 miles a charge on normal riding. Does take like 4 hours to fully charge but it’s great for getting coffees, going to gym, etc

Haha that's the same as my 2016 Renault Zoe! Same stats, same usage. Perfect for my needs! Big fan tbh and I laugh when car reviewers say new EVs "only" reach 250 miles range. I'd love that range ofc for occasional trips but most people don't drive 200 miles a day very often anyway.

This is part of why Germany has such shittg internet. Of of the first large internet networks, so some areas are stuck with the very old lines. Because upgrading costs money.

In a lot of African countries it's not uncommon to see people living in mud-brick houses they built themselves - but hooked up with a solar panel they've bought, a smartphone that they're using to browse the internet and an incredibly clean and shiny car.

Kenya stays doing well from what I've seen, really setting the standard for the rest of us in Africa to follow.

For those interested, you can read up Gogoro bikes from taiwan. They’ve been around for almost a decade now. I believe they are the first with the battery swapping business model.

I hope the government follows suit and builds the infrastructure to support this form of transportation, like superchargers.
