The actual title on the article is “25 per cent of COVID patients become ‘long haulers’ after 12 months: Mac study,” which is not uplifting news. Rephrasing it to emphasize the number that recover is misleading.
Additionally, the article makes no mention of ME/CFS which is one of the more dire outcomes falling under the Long Covid umbrella. ME/CFS is a recognized outcome of infectious illnesses like Epstein-Barr and has a recovery rate of something like 6%. Further, the illness is so debilitating that 25% of patients are bedridden or housebound. While most will recover following a Covid-19 infection, some will not, and at the rates that the virus is circulating, even a relatively small percentage left disabled after each infection will have profound consequences on a population level. This article provides little real information to help readers understand what the longer-term consequences of Covid will be.
