Before this did they pretend the Nazis were pro lgbt or is this just the first time they've been specifically named?

Germany is a liberal country. We had the mayor of Berlin proclaiming "I'm gay and that's good". Was that yesterday? No, 20 years ago. Can you marry? Yes. It's really not an issue here if you're gay, lesbian, transgender or identify as a garden dwarf. Noone cares.

It's tip-toeing around everything that's related to that episode of history.

The holocaust is universally known for the mass murder of Jews, but it began with 'deviants' in German society. Socialists, communists, foreigners, and homosexuals. It's good that people are starting to recognize this.

People don’t even realize how much literature written on gender science and the legitimacy of trans people was burned and then they wonder almost a century later “hmm, I wonder why I’m hearing about this trans thing for the first time. Must be a stupid fad”. Of course it’s been recorded all around the world for centuries but modern academia is near exclusively reliant on white scholars (the kind who’s countries were invaded and books and culture burned)

It's just the first time they've been named....

Also as far as I know they weren't freed when concentration camps were because homosexuality was a crime so they just got taken to a normal prison for the duration of their sentence....

Yeah, I've found myself having to educate people who speak of the Holocaust in reference to the extermination of Jews with the somber reverence it deserves, but then go and spout homophobic bullshit immediately afterward.

I even had to remind a practicing Orthodox Jew that they weren't the only ones who were systematically targeted for genocide, and that I'm one of those people too. I knew it was a bold move, but she took the point well and I didn't press that point further. I wasn't intending to make a wound, but I needed her to know that I was yielding no ground in the argument that we deserve equal human rights in the pursuit of our own lives, liberties, and happiness.

Yeah, I remember reading this story where they force this poor guy Ernst Röhm to shoot himself because they found out he was gay.

Damn, people will literally never run out of ways to milk the Holocaust for sympathy will they?

Next up, commemorate the Romani. This would go a long way to address the discrimination that they continue to face in Europe.
