hello! i’m 21 years old and i want to start practicing driving with my permit, but the only person who can teach and accompany me is a 21 year old who has had his license for a few months. Is that fine or does it HAVE TO be a person who has had their license for 5 years ? thanks :):)

I think legally it’s supposed to be but many people do it with people who’ve had it less than that

I taught myself to drive while i had my learners permit several years ago, just practice in a quiet, slow area

Can't speak to Seattle, my driving experience is mostly tacoma, and I was living in Olympia when I had my learners permit. I just avoided being pulled over, plus I'm white and fem appearing so im not likely to be shot or assaulted if I do get pulled over.

Seek family members first. Young drivers are probably the worst to get experience from. Please sign up for drivers ed classes.

You could also go to a driving school and have them do a lesson and then the test right after They have an incentive to pass you. In WA you can take the driver's test with a driving school instead of the DOL (CA/Oregom DMV).

I had already practiced for a long time before I finally got my license in my late 20's, but I had a lesson with one of the two driving schools in Skagit County and they immediately turned it into a drive test so it felt like cheating but it worked.

Legally speaking it has to be a driver with 5 consecutive years of driving. Somebody that young and inexperienced is not the best to learn from.

I'd recommend reaching out to the drive schools for practice. You don't need to sign up for their $200+ packages that include testing and all that nonsense. Just practice driving. See if any of them have programs for low income or immigrants—you won't know till you ask.

After you feel confident , you can then test with the DoL for $35 (which covers knowledge test and drive test, as long as you pass the knowledge test).
