We are moving back home to Phoenix after a year in Bellevue. We are planning on going to Leavenworth, then the main points are going from there to Boise, then Salt Lake, then south to Phoenix. We were wondering however, is there any small towns on that route that we should stay in? We were thinking somewhere like Bakers city, but were wondering if maybe Kennewick or Umatilla / Hermiston are good options? From there we'd drive to SLC the next day. Any advice? thanks

Baker City (aka Baker) is an interesting small town.

The tri cities (kennewick-pasco- richland) or walla walla would all be decent options. At least far better than Hermiston or Umatilla.

Twin Falls, ID is our usual first stop when we head to Moab. Twin falls is a days drive from Seattle/Everett. Might be a long one from Leavenworth but doable. We stop in Pendelton for lunch, but you could stop there for the night. I would avoid Baker City, agreed with the others, its interesting...
