Well technically the original poster did say ‘that’ time of year and not ‘this’ time of year 🤓

I'd like to think those are Larches, but I suspect they are dead evergreens.

Naw, those are larches, OP's just a mite confused on which special time of year we're rolling into.

That none of us can get a permit for 😃. We'll see how the lottery goes again this year. I'll get there!

I mean the alternative is to organize a shuttle, wake up stupid early, and hike 18.5 miles and 4.5k of vert in day including some slow going scrambling over a boulder field and Asgard pass. Not impossible if you’re fit, but not an easy day even if you are

I think it's more like 20 miles and 6k of very, and that's not for me 😃

As someone who has done this with a few friends, moderately fit, it took about 22 hours with several breaks throughout the day. There were surprisingly several groups attempting it that day and a group of runners from CWU I don't think I'll ever through hike it again in one go but I'm glad we did it. Fingers crossed for this year's lottery.

18.5 is pretty conservative ... it's closer to 21-22. It's a long day but if you're on the trail by 6:30 you can be back before dark!

Just moved to WA. I’ve learned this state has so many amazing places to visit like this. I grew up in AZ and loved it, but I am learning WA has so many amazing things to check out as well. Always looking for recommendations to check out.

Go drive mountain loop highway in the summer time. You can go from either the granite falls side or darrington side. I do this drive at least once a year when it opens fully in the summer. There are plenty of pull of spots to go sit by the river or go free camping. That place is my therapy.

Prusik peak is a fun one. We climbed via the Becky-Davis route.

I did this hike in Fall 2021. Camped in the core enchantment region. Probably one of the best hikes/camps imo. The sunsets & sunrises here are truly magical with larches and pristine alpine lakes. Mesmerizing! Worth every ounce of pain that I went through climbing Aasgard pass.
