We voted to stop this nonsense and it passed. WTF? I’m so tired of the government here. Same for the $35 car tabs that we voted in and was never enacted. Just like we voted against Safeco Field, which got built anyway. Why in the world do we even hold elections in this state? Not to mention that Inslee just signed a legislation that now mandates every citizen turns in a ballot, filled-in or not.

So what’s the holdup? We voted in it 3 years ago.

Your answer isn't found here. Ask your republican senators who, in spite of overwhelming public support and passage by the House, will likely not schedule it for a floor vote.

Maybe get educated in how laws work? The $35 tab initiative was an illegal initiative that should have never been put on the ballot. A permanent change to DST requires approval from congress which the dozen or so states that have voted for it are still waiting on. The mandatory voting law is just a proposal at this point.

Did you read it?

You can get a waiver, you don’t have to provide a reason, you can cast a blank ballot, and there doesn’t appear to be any form of enforcement if you don’t do any of those things.

All this bill is doing is making voter registration opt out, rather than opt in. This is a good thing.

Feel free to opt out.

In the U.S., no one is required by law to vote in any election. The Constitution states that voting is a right, not a “universal city duty.” The waiver is to opt out of registering to vote, not to vote in any given election. Furthermore, the bill states “ You may leave any portion or the entirety of this ballot blank. However, you are required by law to submit this ballot to your local county elections office by Election Day." So, sure, currently there is no stated penalty for not casting a ballot, but there’s certainly room for one later down the road.

I noticed my car tabs were less than normal. I think the stuff we vetoed off of it def went through. Mine use to average about $400 they were about $275 this yr. Def more affordable. If I remember right a few of the additional high fees were put on without a vote of the people.

That RTA tax is what kicks you in the ass. Every metro area gets taxed it… Snohomish, King, and Pierce County. All to go to the damn lightrail.

RTA fees, for my 2018 Hyundai Sonata was $283. I’m terrified for how much it will be with my 2023 Subaru Crosstrek.

The Tab fee… is only like $30-35. I think(? I’ll check the email) when I registered in December it was $30 for them.

Edit: Not all of the RTA excise goes to Lightrail. A good majority of it (I think DMV said over 40%) goes towards the funding of the metro/lightrail. The rest goes to fund roads, public transport, etc).
