The lead singer of Nirvana was born there. The depressing feeling you get from being in Aberdeen totally makes you realize where the mopey pissy mood of grunge music was from.

Aberdeen is not a good place to live, sorry. Salt water in the air wreaks havoc on houses, the poverty rate is high, and drug abuse is rampant. In addition, when people flock to the ocean for holidays, traffic backs up through Aberdeen so badly it practically traps the locals in their homes. I would live nearly anywhere in Washington, but not Aberdeen.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Worked there for 2 months for a work trip last year and will NEVER go back in my life. Depressed town, feels like the end of the world, crack hears absolutely EVERYWHERE. Closest nice (ish) place is Olympia which is like 40 minutes away. Ocean Shores and Westport are absolute let downs with nothing to do other than feel like you’re literally on the end of the world. It looks like a small town but is as busy as downtown Seattle. Absolutely garbage 😂😂 Sorry- rant over 😂

If you work in healthcare, the state hires healthcare professionals at Stafford Creek Correctional Center. You don’t have to live in Aberdeen either. Westport, Ocean Shores, Grayland, all have their advantages. Housing is inexpensive (for the PNW) and Olympia is only an hour away.

Grew up there (age 5 to 13):
- Beachcombing, rock/driftwood-hunting, and clam digging at the ocean (roasting hot dogs/marshmallows over a campfire).
- Perch fishing/crabbing off the Westport docks,
- Excellent YMCA and summer camp (Camp Bishop at Lost Lake).
- Roller skating at the (Harborena) Roller Rink.
- Biking to Junction City and back.
- Warm water swimming at Lake Aberdeen.
- Swimming/diving lessons at the Natatorium (Aberdeen Aquatic Center).
- Salmon berry picking.
- Easter egg hunting at Franklin (Sam Benn Memorial) Park.
- Camping out/fishing on the Wynoochee River.
- Grays Harbor County Fair (Elma).
- Sat/Sun double-matinees at the D & R and Aberdeen Theaters - the D & R hosted music shows prior to 2020 and may again; the Aberdeen Theater was a church, last time I checked. The 7th Street Theatre in Hoquiam is still going.

snohomish? monroe is 30-45 minutes depending on in town or country side and the part of seattle. I’m living here and have been for years and love it. I grew up a bit north of here and my dad always drove to seattle or bellevue

Monroe has a kinda cute / quaint Main St area downtown, a few big chain stores, and lots of traffic. There’s lots of hiking just east and north of there, and Stevens Pass for skiing is a bit east. Looks like there’s a small clinic or two, but the nearest real hospital is in Everett I think.
I live about six miles east of Monroe (and I’m about to list my house for sale if you’re looking).

Not much hiking in grays harbor county (unless walking on the beach counts). The beach can be nice to visit and there are abundant state parks in the area. But it's a gloomy place to live with extremely limited social opportunities or ways to meet like minded friends

Port Angeles would be better. You’re on the Olympic peninsula and have hurricane ridge, lake crescent and lots of hikes

Actually yes I was looking at Port Angeles or Port Townsend. Both have small hospitals for me to work at but finding a small rental home & an open job at the same time has been challenging.

You might want to consider the Wenatchee area. Huge hospital, hiking galore, bike trail on both sides of the river, 4 seasons. It does get hot in the summer but we have the cheapest power rates in the state.

Terrible place. All of grays harbor county sucks and every time I go there I hate it and can't wait to get back to Pierce and Thurston. Then again, everybody from king county feels the same way about Thurston and Pierce county as I do about grays harbor

Vancouver/Camas/Washougal are growing and have several hospitals in the area. Vancouver clinic is opening many centers around the metro area. Portland airport is literally 10 miles away. If you go further North, there are smaller towns within a commute distance to Portland-Vancouver metro area.

Rather than Vancouver I'd suggest OP take a look at Longview/Kelso because housing is going to be much less expensive, a better selection and better quality and they will probably find more of a community there than Portland's bedroom, Vancouver. More about Vancouver's housing: the supply of new homes is very low and quite frankly what is primarily being built are let's say, "units" trying to maximize density without providing walking spaces or parks and even these are being sold at Portland prices. It's probably been a long time since Vancouver would win a beauty contest but what's happening right now is really tragic.

We vacation in Ocean Shores 3 times a year or so and we love it so we can mushroom forage in the Olympic, so we have been to Aberdeen many times and once, we had to stay there. ONCE. And once we took and walk on a bridge in the town and found a pile of human poop. And that’s the most Aberdeen story I have to tell.

I lived in Ocean Shores and worked in Aberdeen. Aberdeen and Hoquiam are not really towns I'd want to live in.
