I’m glad you’re enjoying it here! Out of everywhere in the US, what made you choose Seattle?

I got into UW. I didn’t think I’d make it here honestly. And I wasn’t even sure if this is the place I wanted to be. But fate played it all well. I couldn’t be more grateful.

I was born here and my state sucks ass (TX, fuck you Texas!) you chose right with UW, congrats on getting accepted!

We’re not in the greatest way these days but nevertheless welcome to the United States, I hope you enjoy your time in Washington and in our country.

Thank you so much!

Honestly, this is better than where I am coming from. Haha I am surprised people have issues with the air quality sometimes but to me, it seems better than normal. Its been a month and I haven’t found one reason to crib.

salamander_salad t1_itxa10e wrote

In fairness, the air quality in Seattle was the worst in the world for a few days the other week. And we're really not used to that.

25

DungeonGushers t1_itwr6io wrote

That’s because cribs are unaffordable! I mean, the rent is simply too damn high!

It-apostrophe-sMe t1_itzjxd2 wrote

People were talking about air quality because it rarely happens here when the quality is bad. Also, even though it is much better than some other places, my experience is that once you spend few years here you get used to it and then the bad quality starts affecting you. I also thought the same that even if it is worse, it still is much better than where i am from. Soon i started feeling the congestion and figured that i am not used to that anymore :(

Welcome!!! Not sure about the climate you’re used to but man oh man do these next couple of months of clouds and rain pay off for the summers we get!! Congrats on your acceptance to UW!

Edit: I love all of our weather here!

I hear the summer is bad btw?

Summer is fantastic. It begins around the 4th of July and usually lasts two entire months. People visit during summer and then decide to move here, having not experienced the other 10 months.

Summer is pretty awful these days but we have incredible springs and falls.

It’s usually cold around here, we’re right next to Canada after all. But god do some of the summers get hot man.

NoticeOk295 OP t1_itwl0b7 wrote

thanks so much. Its not the locals but its people who’ve been here recently, maybe over a couple of years. I hate them! Hahaha this weather is great, and I don’t know why they hate it so much.

I moved here from down south about a year ago. Idk what people are complaining about either, I love the weather so far.

Yes, I love how it is always green in winter 💚 ... Until our semi-annual snow dump, that is!

I love all the weather in Washington, this fall has seemed especially beautiful.

Washington has a few places where the fall is incredible but I'm general other places are much prettier for the changing of the seasons.

Still, welcome either way!

6

leilani238 t1_itxx2f8 wrote

Yeah, this. I love Washington, but it's not the best place for fall color. I'm actually visiting the NY/NJ area now and we've had some time to go leaf peeping, and I finally understand why people love fall! It's spectacular. Vibrant yellows, oranges, reds, and purples as far as the eye can see, on every tree, vast tracts of forest.

I don't know if anywhere beats the PNW for wildflowers in the summer, though :)

2

HappyInNature t1_ity0ll4 wrote

Yeah, that's where I grew up. Upstate in the fall is incredible

Suspicious-Taste-118 t1_itwgzxc wrote

Welcome! The Midwest has extremely beautiful falls, as well. Highly recommend if you have the chance to travel there this season.

Next summer, on an nice summer day, go down to the Canoe House and rent a canoe, and paddle over to the Arboretum. Take a loaf of stale bread. You will be surrounded by dozens of ducks, lots of fun. I think right now, there is a lot of construction, so you may need to wait until they are done with that. Also, Gasworks Park is very nice to visit. And some sunny weekend, take a ferry over to Bremerton, walk around a bit, and then come back. Don't need a car. Just a pretty ride, and not very expensive.

4

heptapodB t1_ity3ls2 wrote

I grew up feeding the ducks bread and it was a lot of fun, but I found out it's reeally bad for them. They'll come up to you anyway looking for a treat. The canoe is a great idea. Last time I rented one there, a family of baby ducks folowed the boat.

3

lovesmtns t1_ity62vk wrote

A better treat would be cracked corn, or even just rolled oats, which at least float. But I agree, bread is probably a poor choice for ducks. Hey, a bag of rolled oats is easy :). And the ducks are just so memorable and fun :).

3

-Velvet-Bat- t1_iue6zrd wrote

DO NOT FEED BREAD TO DUCKS!

1

lovesmtns t1_iuemtni wrote

If you are in a canoe, surrounded by ducks, what treat do you recommend? I have heard cracked corn is good, but I'm not sure it would float.

Late September and Early October would be the time to see those colors. Drive up that road, go south, and drive up to Lincoln Gap and down that side. The trees meet over the road, and it is like driving through a tunnel.

errhead56 t1_itxd45m wrote

Oneonta and multnomah falls are just a few hours drive away for more fall vibes. I think Vashon Island might offer some coziness, too.

If you like fall here, you gotta visit the northeast. Hudson Valley in NY, third week of October. Go to a pumpkin patch, apple orchard, cider bar, haunted house/hayride. Colors will be RED ORANGE YELLOW bonanza!!!

Edit: Theres also the Fall Foliage Map so you can stay updated on those leaves!
