For real, here in Spokane it went from 70’s and 80’s to 50’s and 60’s in the matter of a day. Been in the 40’s the last few.

Can’t wait for all of Seattle to come ski at Stevens Pass, causing Hwy 2 to be gridlocked in Gold Bar and Sultan.

It's here already. Down in the low 40s this morning in Snohomish County.

My pineapple sage is almost 6 feet tall and covered in fluted red flowers. It's been very popular with the hummingbirds lately.

How does the pineapple sage do out here in western wa

Well it was a 3-4" pot in the spring, and it's a 6 foot tall bush now, so pretty well i suppose! It will probably die with a hard freeze, but the bottom is pretty woody. I can't complain, i harvested off it plenty while it grew and it's a monster.

Congrats - may give it a try this spring!

Definitely recommend! It was very happy in the ground with pineapple mint growing under and up it.

Reminder that if you have feeders out in the late fall you HAVE to keep putting them out for winter, or the wee ones can starve

Yes we have a heated one for the beach locals that stays full all year.

I try to feed all winter. Bring the feeders in at night and put them out 1st thing in the morning.

I’m too lazy to go out twice, so I just keep 2 feeders and rotate them every morning.

I think hummingbirds might expect food earlier than you're up, unless you get up really early.

I split my time between 2 houses. I feed my hummers in SEA when I’m there. My neighbor feeds year around. My hummers, at both houses are smart enough to know when I’m home! Maybe the presence of my dogs in the yard. The feeders are empty when I get back, I fill them up and the birds are back in 1 day. I’ve been doing this for years. Hummers always have more than one source of food to go to. They check in and get a reward of food. A crow comes also as soon as he sees the dogs in the yard.

Even in downtown Seattle/Queen Anne?

I won't be home for a month in December/January and was wondering if hummers that got used to my feeder have alternatives. I see other feeders in the neighborhood so I hope they will be ok.

Yup. You need to take down feeders late summer if you don’t intend to feed them constantly.
