Quite the message from SW Washington.
Two of the ten Republican House members who voted to impeach President Trump were from WA. One (Newhouse) won his primary and was re-elected. The other (Herrera Butler) was primaried as retribution. That guy lost… to a Democrat… in a strong R district.
Good for Washington.

Honestly, I find it amusing that the party took out a rep for voting for impeachment despite showing they could beat a Democrat, and ended up losing the seat in the end.

I find that quite amusing as well.

I think much the same thing about people who get outraged about Manchin. I get it, but if he gets primaried then WVa elects a Republican replacement. And then Mitch McConnell would be Majority Leader. That would be much, much worse than having Manchin stymie certain policy goals.

It's more likely to imagine Sinema could be safely primaried, so her intransigence doesn't make as much sense to me.

There isn't much about Sinema that makes sense to me. I kind of respect her for marching to the beat of her own drummer, at least when I'm not frustrated with her for it.

The issue with Sinema is the transformation. She ran as a progressive with lots of left of liberal promises. Then she got there with the ability to demand those and immediately started trying to enrich corporations for short sighted cheap returns.

Agree with good chunks of this, but when Brian Baird was in office the distinct included lots of the Olympia area. Then WA got a new congressional district in the Oly area and that removed a major democrat-leaning area. I’m guessing Herrera Butler would have lost re-election in 2012 had the distinct still included Olympia. So long story short, I think this win was much less likely than any recent D victory in the last 10-20 years for this district.

From 538's website "Just to emphasize how unlikely that Democratic pickup in Washington’s 3rd District was, our midterm forecast gave Gluesenkamp Pérez just a 2-in-100 shot of defeating Kent. That is the upset of the cycle thus far. While Kent always seemed likely to be a weaker GOP candidate than Herrera Beutler, a Republican losing an R+9 seat is highly unusual in a midterm when Democrats control the White House."

Newhouse just spread fear in the "right" way better is all. He ran ads saying that the communists were gonna come and steal our farms and only he can stop them.
