At the end of the month I’ll be moving to Sequim for a hospital job. I am originally from California and this is my first time moving out of my home. What is the process for changing my address and where exactly do I do that at so I can get “residency” in WA? Do I have to go to city hall to deal with that? Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

You can do a Change of Address online at USPS. Apply for a new Drivers License once you get to WA to reflect your new address and residency.

I recommend getting an enhanced license. So you can travel to Canada easily. The port angeles ferry has routes to Vancouver island too.

Oooo great idea! I have my passport though, will that be just as fast as the enhanced license?

Pretty sure it’s the same wait unless you get one of the quick pass things

Hopefully those sites will get you started. Start by changing your address with the post office, then register to vote and get a driver’s license/state ID. No need to go to city hall, just the post office and then a branch of the Department of Licensing for the ID (if you have a car you need to register, you’ll also do that through the DOL). And you can print and mail in a voter registration form. I’d also recommend having your mail forwarded to your new address for a while; the post office will do this for you if you ask. Lastly, make sure you update your new address with your bank and/or any other financial institutions needed. Welcome to WA!

Oh, and if you have a vehicle, don’t forget to change your insurance over to WA once you get there, and give them your new address as well. You’ll also have to register the car in WA.

Thank you!!

I do have my own car, so I’ll definitely make a stop by the DMV when I get there

Here it’s the DOL, Dept of Licensing, not the DMV. Just so you know where to go. Welcome!

To add on. You’ll need to wait for some form of mail/document that establishes residency to get your DL (pay stub, utility bill etc)

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be sure to have my pay stubs reflect my new address

You can also register to vote when you get your license as well so you can check off two things off your to-do list at once. Good luck!
