It's still quite early in the season so avalanches are unlikely to block hwy 2, though the bolt creek fire area could have some mudslides.

I'd just say keep an eye on WSDOT's website for hwy 2, but I don't think you should have any issues getting into town this weekend.

Alternatively, if hwy 2 does get closed for some reason, you could take I-90 to hwy 97 over Blewett Pass.

awd + chains should be fine but practice putting them on before youre stuck on the side of the highway

awd + traction tire is even better

stick to i90 and check the wsdot twitter before you go

What’s your stable? I have an E36 3/4/5 that doesn’t see much winter duty bc I can always take the Jeep.

But for years before we had two cars I took an E39 540i/6 with winter tires to the passes a dozen times a year for skiing.

Also fwiw I found that Michelin IceX ix3s offer like 95% the snow/ice performance or a blizzack and way better comfort/road noise/handling on cold dry roads.

Used to have a spec e36 3er id take down to Kent for track days but I sold it some years ago. Now Ive got the E92, a NB miata im in the process of turning into a track car, and my trusty 2nd gen Tacoma for mountain purposes (and when my BMW breaks down lol)

I've heard very good things about the Michelins. Pretty hard to shop for winter shoes since they're a bit overkill for normal usage in Western WA but absolutely essential for crossing the passes. Ive generally stuck to blizzaks on my taco but I need a new set next year anyway, maybe Ill try these
