Yes, that's true. Whidbey is a single island, cited as the longest in the country. I was asking what they were referring to as "the islands". It doesn't make sense in local parlance. Folks say "The San Juans". But where are "the islands". Like Fox and Anderson? Indian and Marrowstone?

Whenever I say "the islands" in conversation, I'm always referring to the San Juan Islands and Whidbey Island. I know it doesn't make sense because they're in different counties.

That’s the most common usage I hear as well. Maybe “the islands” were referring to Whidbey and Hat island 🤷‍♂️.

Speaking of hat Island, I would love a small piece of property there. It only has about 50 full-time residence and you can’t even get to the island unless you yourself are a resident or be guest of a resident. There is a private ferry that only runs on weekends, otherwise you need a private boat.

Sounds amazing. I've never been to hat island. I've seen it many times from Everett and the Mukilteo Clinton ferry. I'd love to live on Whidbey.

I lived in Whidbey for a year. Very strong sense of community there. Also hard to escape the incestuous gossip in a community that close. Like with everything it has it’s pros and cons.

It’s the longest in WA, but not the country, by far. Wiki says it’s the fourth longest in the country.

Long Island is nearly 120 miles long.
