Meeting my half sister and showing her and some friends around Washington.

Hey all, I would love some suggestions. I’m meeting my half sister for the first time. She’s in her mid twenties and she’s coming from Korea with a couple friends. I plan to do the typical Seattle tour of the market, space needle, etc. but the visit will be in mid January. I would normally love to take them to go check out Mount Rainer and such but it will be closed. Any suggestions on places to see outside of the city would be amazing.

If the weather is clear, I highly recommend a ferry ride... Even just out and back, there's a lot of scenery. The BI or Kingston runs are shorter and have more/better stuff at the far end, but the Bremerton run has better scenery.

To add to what they said, take her out to the peninsula. Port Townsend is badass and there is a ton to do in that tiny town. Also, see the coast, La push. It'll be typical Washington weather, so tell her to be ready for cold/rain.

I've been to Korea a few times and can tell you our trees dwarf whatever they have over there.

Do they like spooky experiences? I never thought about them one way or the other, but I had a very unusual experience at Sirens in Port Townsend last night. No I was not drinking. The food was so good though.

Ferry rides are awesome! If it's cold weather make sure to bundle up with hat & gloves so you can go out on the passenger deck.

Not sure what vehicle you have but even just two wheel front wheel drive should be just fine to get you to lake cushman in the Olympics. Great to just walk around the lake. Also if you go to the end of the lake there is what called Stair Case. Super easy hike just walking around the river. Incredibly beautiful there. You might need a park pass though.

McMenamins Elks Temple in Tacoma would make the trip down nearly worth it in itself. It’s a big fancy historic building designed into a very eccentric and unique bar/restaurant/hotel/dancehall that utilizes and boasts a lot of local history. Plenty to explore and even a secret hidden speakeasy for patrons to find ;). Bobs Java Jive is also a fun unique “waterhole” with some good Grunge and music history. Ruston area is good too on a nice day.

In Seattle Queen Anne is a fun place to explore with its own unique local architecture. It is very close to the Space Needle and is home to famous Kerry Park, Taylor’s Shellfish, Golden Olive Mediterranean, KEXP coffee and Cafe Zingaro.

Seattle also has a lot of cool museums all over and a fancy Japanese garden that people tell me is great and I have been trying to go for years now.

Just keep her away from side loading washers and dryers, nothing good ever comes from getting stuck in those. /s
