Mazama tomorrow tonight: forecast low of -28F (source: those wags at the NWS). I suggest an extra helping of bacon. Those tracks are gonna be sloooooooow.

It was -9F last night and -11F the night before. It's a balmy +2 right now, and dumping like crazy! Heading to Sun Mountain for some very slow skiing.

Couple of reasons. First, hoar crystals growing on surfaces in subzero temps, glorious in the morning sunlight but with the structure of sandpaper. Also, much of your glide comes from tiny amounts of solid water changing phase under pressure as the ski transfers your bodyweight onto the snow, and at colder temperatures your skiing enjoys less of that.
