Hit the road and find them! The research is half the joy of making a book!

From Pullman, drive west. Tons of stuff between Albion and La Crosse. If you head east, there is just as much if not more abandoned stuff between Moscow and Bovill on the Idaho side.

A lot of those towns on the Idaho side used to have large logging operations that have since dwindled so more stuff in Idaho although some of it is technically outside of the actually Palouse region. The Washington side has more generational farms so less buildings in general but also less that is abandoned and still standing. Good luck, would love to see the photos when you’re done!

As a person who grew up in the Palouse, just get off the highways and you'll see plenty. Take a side road through the fields and see where it takes you. You'll find more old buildings that way than along highway routes.

As someone that grew up in the area, please be respectful of private property and ask for permission vs trespassing. While the buildings may not be in use, the properties are nearly always on active farm ground and you can damage crops (and your vehicle or yourself) by trespassing.
