We moved here from IL in 2011 and are still just as amazed by the beauty as when we first came.

A couple of related historical vignettes…

1956: On school field trips, we believed that if we held our breaths all the way across the bridge in our heavy, slow-moving school bus, that it wouldn’t collapse. Almost 70 years later, you can thank the first grade class of Langley Elementary.

Fast-forward 10 years: On a camping trip to Deception Pass State Park, we Langley High School guys crawled out on the lower bridge girders, over the fast-moving channel, with its deadly-looking whirlpools, to fish for bass. Never caught any, but we earned some bragging rights to this day.

My mom’s friend said they used to crawl out there in high school too. No thanks!

Does anybody live near the bridge? I'm thinking of buying a house out there, but I've heard the airbase has a lot of noise.

Only if you live under the flight path. It's LOUD if you do, but the rest of the areas are fine.

Can confirm, we live directly under the flight path. You can't hear anything when the planes are flying, especially the Growlers

It's gorgeous out here, but house prices have shot up in the last several years, plus houses are scarce in general due to the Navy bases having more people stationed there than they have housing available, so the military families have taken nearabout all the civilian housing in the area -- at least on north Whidbey. Who knows though, you could get lucky. It's worth a shot!

Yeah my wife and I go every few years. It's way more accessible than the San Juans too. Hoping for acreage and or proximity to the sound because we've farmed the hell out of our half acre in Black Diamond and nothing beats the seafood win rate of crabbing. All these lowland lakes are empty of anything bigger than perch.

We're stuck for another few months because of our newborn though. We keep seeing really good properties show up and disappear quick.

Ran across this in my first marathon. It was pouring rain, but still as majestic as ever!

I’m born and raised here and I still keep snapping pictures of Rainier, the forests and taking panos of the Seattle skyline
