I'm curious why all the "flowered" weed I buy at the various recreational stores around the state is always so dry? No matter where I go or what I buy, the dryness is consistent across all the various suppliers/growers. Is this somekinda requirement that legal weed can't exceed a certain moisture content or something? Why would they even do that? Or is it maybe to insure some kinda weight standard or something? I dunno.

Moisture content is specified in the law and it has to be really dry, overly dried imo.

well that explains that. It isn't just dry it's brittle and dessicated.

well, here's to using the old orange peel trick...

Also look at when it was harvested on the container. I have bought some in the past that is several months to a year old.

Back before it was legal it was grown prepped for sale then sold (at least if it was produced in the state) it was much much fresher

Drying it as much as they are preserves it longer and reduces quality issues that could impact human health when used

Yeah it literally falls apart in your fingers from the slightest touch. What happened to that good sticky icky??

Take the rind of an orange/tangerine and leave it in with the weed for a day or two, the green will fluff up and taste even more delicious (imo) Edit - be careful not to leave it in too long tho

Just use a lil piece of tortilla so as not to affect terps or affect the flavor

Oh wow. Had no idea. I wonder what the reasoning is. CA must not have this because the weed there was always so fresh and juicy.

AHoeKnows t1_j30uoui wrote

In my random guess it’d be to avoid it from getting moldy?

I struggle with this too. I'm old school. I smoke out of a bong. I want fluffy, sticky flower for the bong. Not dry, crumbly stuff. I'm told it has to do with people who grind their weed before they smoke it. Definitely talk to the bud tenders about what you are looking for. They are always willing to help me find a great smoke to enjoy. And if you need to put a little moisture back in your weed, use an orange peel and put it in with your weed.

ah the old orange peel trick! been doing it for years. I like to change up every once in a while and use grapefruit and lemon peels as well. adds a nice flavor back and makes for a smoother toke too!

I smoke out of a bong and I’ve always ground my weed. The trick I’ve found is to use a filter to keep the smaller bits from falling through the bowl.

Depends on what you buy. Cheaper stuff is def gonna be dry small buds. I always assumed it had been sitting for awhile. Just buy the moisture control packs online I use boveda 62%

16

StonedBalrog t1_j31yq4r wrote

Do you use the control packs even if your bud is in unopened glass containers?

1

Bamcfp t1_j3242ap wrote

Yep. I use them in everything in case it sits for a bit even though it never does. They're reusable and cheap so might as well. In Oregon the moisture packs come built into the lid, it's sweet.

Where are you shopping at bud? I live in king county but shop in Peirce county and they've always got good sticky reefer out here, talk to the bud tenders!

Because its over 6 months old. The quality of flower has plummeted ever since rec became legal and corporations took over the market. Profit over quality.

I guess that's why the black market is still thriving, am I right?

It's a big reason I decided to move to Oregon and grow my own. I dont know very many people who use dispensaries. The highest earning dispensaries in Oregon are in Ontario because of it being illegal in Idaho.

Thanks for the heads up I’ve been looking at the boveda packs but this one looks nice

Sacredgeometry12 t1_j328143 wrote

Get boveda that’s what we use at home for our jars. I can tell you certain farms to buy product from over others. I’ve worked for many different farms in WA and currently help run one now. The weed shouldn’t be so dry it disintegrates when you pack a bowl.

well howdy!

so which farms/growers would you recommend based on your experiences working the fields of green?

Are you just interested in only flower? Do you care about carts or oil as well? Just so I know before I recommend farms

I use a humidor with a bead pack designed to get the right moisture for marijuana to make it better. I still miss medical marijuana

3

Lonny_loss t1_j33naxa wrote

Some people are funny. As someone who has lived through the struggles of marijuana being criminalized, splitting hairs and moaning about the moisture content on our conveniently paid for weed is pointless.

I remember being sold weed that looked like it had barely cured, so it stayed in my cupboard for a month before I could even smoke it. I definitely don’t miss those days. Guess what? We’re getting high, so chill out.

In just couple years people went from appreciating not having to hide for your life everyday to criticizing branding logos and complaining about quality when there's a billion strains to choose from. You remember when you just got what your guy had? How about explaining to your buddy that you guys spent $40 and its only okay?

Corporate farmers bought out most of the good farmers or ran them out of business by influencing vendors. The licensing fees and taxes are too high for independent farmers to make any profit. The corporate farmers grow inferior weed and sell it as top shelf.

I go to a spot in downtown Seattle and don't usually have this issue. I moved up here from Vegas and you think the herb up here is dry? When I pick up, I usually tell the budtender that I'm looking for something fresh as well as heavy, they bring me a few selections which are mostly in bags and when I look at the package I give the nugs a little squeeze so see if there's some give or if it just starts to crumble.

Cuz by the time it gets to the shops, it can be many weeks or even a month old.

If ya happen to know an underground grower then it’s like farm to table and it’s GLORIOUS hahaha 😝

DM me if ya want.

Because properly cured weed is more enjoyable. And because wet weed doesn't burn.

Sticky, moist weed burns just fine and creates more, better quality smoke in my experience. And it cherries better.

REhumanWA t1_j30wcjb wrote

My guesses would be to ensure a certain amount of thc or that the weeds not to strong. The sticky icky is the good ish right? So there maybe some law or regulatio. That caps the strength idk coukd be talking out my ass haha. But also mold idk if that sticky goodness can cause mold but if it can than there's not much of a use of putting it in a jar to sit in a shop for a month or two.

If you put a few drops of water into the jar, it'll soften up.
