I'm curious as to which school has the better EE program, concentrations, and future research opportunities specifically for Photonics and Electromagnetics.
Would that fall under sensor and sensor systems?
How has your life been since finishing your degree? Do you feel as if the University has prepared you properly for EE our in the real world?

It has a larger depart of EE (A whole building and some), more faculty, more research funds, etc. just a bigger place in general. you can check their website for more info

Not only that but with Boeing and other Hi Tech manufacturing being in the region that has had a huge effect on the UW over the years.
Funnily enough, I guess, I work for Boeing. Is that a good kind of effect on UW?
Actually, yes. It started in 1917 when when William Boeing donated 6000$ to make a wind tunnel and the UW committed to Aeronautics courses and training Engineers. They've been intertwined ever since. The UW has a web page about in in the Engineering section.
UW is the better school for almost very major, but definitely for engineering. I think WSU might have better agricultural and veterinary programs. Keep in mind though that UW EE has a very low acceptance rate, so if you don’t get in direct admit, you might need a backup major. I want to say it’s under 10% but I haven’t checked since my friends were trying to get into majors ~4 years ago.
UW is a member of the AAU (Association of American Universities), Wazzou is not. ‘Nuff said.

No one calls it Wazzu anymore
Edit: Gotta love getting downvoted by alumni who haven't been to Pullman since Bill Doba was coach lmao. If any of you ever come back to Pullman, call the university "Wazzu" and see what reaction you get from the people who live and work there. It's nothing but nostalgia for a bygone era, and alumni living on the west side apparently never got the message.
That is absolutely false, a ton of Cougs call it Wazzu and we even had a football game this year where they put “Wazzu” in script on the side of our helmets. There was an attempt by administration a while back to shed the name but it’s been fully embraced at this point.
Everyone calls it Wazzu. It's been that for as long as I can remember and I'm 63.
I lived in Pullman for 14 years up until 2020 and we stopped calling it that sometime around 2004. The latest thing on the helmets is just a nostalgia push.
They may have in Pullman but everywhere else it's still Wazzu. As in Wazzu couged it again. ;)

They did a pretty good job of shedding it because that was name was long gone by the time Elson Floyd showed up.

The one you get into
I think it depends on what specialization you’re hoping to pursue. WSU is a great choice if you’re studying power systems. Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) leads the industry for designing protection and control systems for power - the company was founded by a WSU professor and is HQ in Pullman.
I'm wanting to pursue optics (photonics and Electromagnetics) specifically. Would WSU still be a good choice for that as well?
My niece from Arizona was looking at UW for their EE program. Not sure what that says, just the only input I have to provide. Lol

A third option if you're looking for engineering programs in the state, would be Walla Walla University. I HATED my time at the school, for personal reasons, but the engineering program is one of the top in the country. All the engineering graduates that I know are doing serious jobs in serious places, and the engineering connections by professors and alumni are pretty good. (Naval yards, Hanford, Lockheed, Boeing, etc etc)

I don't really have an answer to your question, but I'd like to point out Bellingham Technical College's electricians program. My brother went through the program in just 2 years and now has a good job with the county after having worked for the local union for 5 years. I don't know what parts of EE you specifically are interested in, but if your desires are flexible, BTC is a fast, cheap, and direct-to-career option worth keeping in mind.

Neither. They both receive state funding and waste our money 💴 on things like COVID research that held zero benefits to the populace.
Btw, UW is just as bad at lying as Dr. Fauci. Check out their pending lawsuits and what students/staff have said about hidden funding.

Thanks, so of those two, WSU is somewhat better rather than impending lawsuits and such?
It’s about education and not every teacher is corrupt. But have one of those teachers try and tell both sides of Covid in any curriculum and they will be fired and/or have funding cut.
UW has more prominence on a resume, specifically the medical line of business, l but WSU has its specialities like engineering and military related careers.
