I think ferry rides, especially on a nice day, are one of the jewels of Washington state. I always make sure visitors who have never been to Washington before get a ferry ride. Who can beat a view of majestic snow-covered Mt Rainier rising over Harbor Island. My last visitor was treated to a magnificent sunset over Whidbey Island as we steamed away. (Steaming away sounds ever so much better than "dieseled away" :). One of my favorite movies (Double Jeopardy) has some great Washington state ferry scenes :). We even got a great folks song from our ferry system, "Elwa on the Rocks" :).

Honestly my favorite part about living across the Sound. Does make Seattle less accessible on my own schedule, but it's just so cool to get on a boat, have a nice little ride, and get off downtown.

Ferry Rides are my favorite part of whatever trip I’m taking if I’m being honest

I live in AZ these days. A co-worker was visiting so that she could watch the Cardinals in Seattle. This was a bucket list thing, and she really enjoyed the stadium and the people.

She asked me for a list of things to do. I sent her to Fauntleroy to take the Vashon ferry. She did not believe me that people actually drive their cars, only the boat, lol. She said it was one of the coolest experiences her family has ever had.

Vashon is beautiful. The islands are truly amazing. Lummi, Bainbridge, Whidbey, Lopez, Orcas… there are more of course and they are all magical places. I grew up riding ferries. I ended up commuting 5 days a week on them for almost 8 years. The sunset or sunrise boats are my favorite. I recommend it to people visiting. Especially because many states don’t have ferry systems like this.
