That whole area was so beautiful back before the eruption. Hard to believe it's over forty years now. Somewhere under all that mud is Harry Truman.

Actually, he'd made up his mind to leave, but left it too long. (Family friend worked in the Forest Service up there and talked to him often.)

Oh? Ive never heard that story! And ive worked extensively with the State Parks’ Mt St Helens collections. Thats very interesting.

Do you know why he and his brother first moved up there? They were running moonshine down into Portland! And had their still up there. The guy was more of a character than he liked to admit!
