If you listen to folks who have other services, it's a pretty universal experience across internet/cable providers. That's not a defense of Spectrum, they've been shit forever, but they're all pretty much like this. It's kind of luck of the draw with how busy a branch is and who is working.
I once spent several phone calls and visits to their Higgins St location when they were still Charter and they all told me I couldn't get what I wanted. Then I tried one last time and got the one guy who knew what he was doing and he had me settled in five minutes.
masshole4life t1_j6td2je wrote
more likely you found the one guy willing to take the hit on his metrics, especially if this is before the higgins st call center went repair-only.
working on commission is a bitch.
you're expecting the common sense thing of "service" but all customer facing positions are secretly sales positions. the rep was not rewarded for serving you but for generating revenue. the actual problems were almost inconsequential to the company and all they cared about was every call being an opportunity to wring more money out of the customer. you wanting to "downgrade" anything trashes the rep's numbers so they just keep making shit up and passing you off to the next guy. years ago they did not track lobby rep's repeat customers like they did for call centers so reps could just lie and pretend they never spoke to you and just hide from you if you came in again lol.
this was long ago and lots has changed. but in true charter fashion they have actually become even worse.

I 100% believe you. In this case, I actually wanted to cancel an account and open a new account because it was in a vanished roommate's name. They all just told me they couldn't do it and tried to get rid of me. This one guy was like: Yep, your name is listed as an authorized account user, we can do that. The alternative was to wait for the account to go delinquent and disconnected...

Just a friendly reminder that TMobile Home Internet is now available in Worcester, and you could theoretically avoid ever dealing with Spectrum again.
Say what you will of TMobile - my home internet experience has been a massive step up from the terrible service provided by Spectrum. Had it about 8 months now.

What’s the speed and latency? I get rock solid 300 down and 10 up with Spectrum and almost never have outage/issue.

I just tested now at 430 Dl 36 Ul. It can vary but it’s usually 200+.

Dunno, mate. Try Verizon.com, but they sent out mailers in Webster Square.

Oh my god. PTSD from that store. I had to wait 5 hours to get a wireless router that they had forgotten to send me. I then get my next bill and the dude who gave me the wireless router decided to help his sales number and added the most expensive cable package to my account. I had to call, prove to them that I never purchased or agreed to the cable package and get it removed.
This was all because they forgot to send me a fucking router. I’ve really never experienced anything like it before
NativeSon508 t1_j6tca6b wrote
You’re much better off buying your own router anyways. You’re likely paying $7 a month to rent their and a good router is $100.

Good to know

It amazes me how many people go there to pay their bill in person. I'll never understand that. Just think if these folks pay all their other bills in person, too, that's a lot of time each month paying bills.
It's 2023, even if you're "old" now it's not like there wasn't the last 20 years to become familiar with auto pay or bill pay through a bank or god forbid...US mail!
CloroxWipes1 OP t1_j6wqp2m wrote
Best part...the 3rd party vendor machine in the store to take payments doesn't work...hasn't for days.
The, on 1/31, they couldn't process payments because their system was down...yet they could process orders for new service?
FFS, just take the payment, issue a receipt and fix your shitty system later.
