I'm going to be moving to Worcester this summer with my partner and medium sized dog. Our budget is around $1800-$2400. 2 bedrooms is a must and 2 bathrooms would be nice but not required.

Looking on Zillow/Trulia/etc shows a bunch of apartment complexes but I don't really know the quality of these places. Any places to check out or avoid?

One thing to keep in mind as well, is what company manages those complexes. You should contact either the realtor if there is one, or the main office and ask. You should also check to see how often and how much rent increases are for the past 5 years or so.

You don't want to move into a place that has a bad management company or you see your rent increase too much every year.

I'd recommend finding a house rather than a complex. The complexes vary vastly in quality; any property should be toured, but especially those complexes (and many won't want to give them to you). House example 1, example 2.

The only complex in the city that I've heard has a lot of red flags is Junction Shop Lofts. Places like 145 Front St and the Kelley Sq Lofts are all supposed to be perfectly fine, just really fucking expensive.

Honestly if you're willing to pay that much, seriously consider buying a house or at least a condo.

Yes that's certainly going to be the preference. I think we're just a little bit nervous about whether houses to rent will still be available come summertime (all these places have move in dates within the next few months), so we've just been entertaining the idea of living in a complex.

Understood -- we were in the same situation a few years ago. After seeing the mostly dismal complexes, speaking with managers about when to expect availability during our time, and seeing how regularly home apartments became available, we delayed our search and began looking in March/April for places starting in July/August.

I’ve lived at Princeton apartments for 3 years and enjoyed it! Rent increases ~80 bucks every year though. Lots of amenities and dog friendly

Tbf there are certainly benefits to the big complexes - steady availability, low deposits, usually in good condition, pet friendly - so I wouldn't necessarily call it settling. But if you've got the time, maybe reach out to a realtor who can find what you're looking for at a better price.

My husband and I are in a similar boat and have been essentially looking at every apartment website possible. We have weighed the options and it seems like the budget buckles slightly but shrewsbury and marlborough seem to offer more (yes for more money) in an apartment but parking seems not to be an issue or a lot of the neighborhoods. We're not from the area, I'm only speaking of our personal experience in the area and what we've seen online from Apts and reviews

Just a few more updates, all new appliances and updated kitchen (we did it about a year and a half ago) new flooring upstairs, and we just built a 14x10 shed for storage in the backyard. Also backyard is fenced

Tatanuck Square ApartmentsTatnuck Square Apartments are great. You're right near Park and Main but you don't feel like you are - nice trees & brook running through the property. They have two styles of 2-bedroom apartments, one that includes an ensuite bathroom in the large bedroom. Super friendly neighbors, good local eats, and like I said, you're right near Park and Main with all they offer up.
