You can rent a house in some of the smaller towns in Worcester county for about that. In most cases there's at least two baths and bedrooms. Parking is free, most are pet friendly and there's very low crime. Gas prices are kind of a deal breaker depending on how far out you go and I've read some people don't want a commute. I don't get that, what's worse a twenty minute drive or an hour and half ride on the T to Boston? Anyway I've always had a commute when I worked, the worst was a hundred miles a day but it was all pike and if the money's right you can become inured to anything. I never minded the trade off because living outside of the city had so much going for it.

Wrong. Even negligible communities line Fitchburg and Gardner are renting absolute dumps for 1700+. A house rental is 2K.

Those are areas that have been in decline for a long time and have attracted all of the associated ills of poverty but RT 2 runs through both of them which goes into the Boston area and an alternative to the pike or 9. So yeah I can see what you are saying. I was thinking more like west of Worcester. I look at a property in Spencer in a nice area. It was a nicely updated 2 bed 1.5 bath with a 1 car garage under and parking for 2, a .5 acre yard. I was looking for income property and the realtor said it was rented for $1200 but could fetch $1500. I didn't buy that but looked at some less desirable properties that were all right around $1000 a month. I haven't bought anything yet due to a wobbly market but I do keep an eye out. Worcester's getting whatever the market can bear and it's in my estimate, gouging. If I were a landlord I would prefer good tenants over money. In the long run it pays off. I

$1500 for a 1 bedroom? Damn. This is why people are living, quite happily, in vans nowadays.

For 1500 that place better never have an issue, and be over 700 square feet.

Especially since it's not even in Worcester

Thanks! It’s for a coworker with mobility issues. Worlds sweetest guy, his landlord just sold his building and he needs a first floor. Much appreciated.

Oh man, that totally stinks! There are a few steps but not many just so he knows. Also close to the laundry which might be helpful for him!
