hello! i just moved here at the end of september & haven't had the time or resources to do much exploring yet. my gf is visiting at the end of april & we'd like to get out & do some stuff around then. we really enjoy music, all types; classical, rock, rap are our biggest. we love indie music & would love to catch a show or two while she's here. anyone have any recommendations or tips to finding these?

First check out who’s playing at Ralph’s, Vincents, Steel & Wire, and Electric Haze. Also, The White Room is a wonderful event space/art gallery and the couple who run it have just started a community series on Sunday nights that’s going to be a variety of programming. Follow them on IG to keep tabs on what’s coming up.

the palladium will be your best bet, check their event listings and see if you find anything you like. every other place in worcester i go to deals almost exclusively with screaming music

Great recs! I'd just like to add that Boston, Providence, and Pioneer Valley all have some great options and aren't a bad drive for a show. Although I haven't really kept up with live music since Covid, so I'm not entirely sure what's still good these days.

I personally use Bandsintown to find my shows. It's great, lets you import all your followed artists on your other apps and makes recommendations based on them. Or you can search everything within your set radius.

Edit: The Jesus Christ Superstar revival is coming to the Hanover at the end of April. You did say all types of music, u/dandylion1313.

Honestly I’d recommend finding a great show in Boston and/or Prov you both wanna see and going out there one night. It’s rare that anything comes through Worcester that’s solid. I checked the Palladium’s schedule and there isn’t anything notable besides Morbid Angel (death metal)

Outside of music specifically, I’d say taking her to Free Play and Ralph’s would be a good time. Free Play because it’s kinda impossible to not have fun there, and Ralph’s because it has more character than literally any bar in New England

Post-covid Worcester is kinda weird honestly. Most small communities that were doing cool shit kinda dried up. On weekends I used to be able to find a cool warehouse show with actual sick bands, go to parties at practice spaces, make weird films and art with people in those communities. Now that culture hardly exists, and the art that ends up coming out is much less inspired because of it

The Summit Lounge is a nice little 420 friendly spot with killer milkshakes and fun events if you’re not into drinking :)
