It’s really mediocre.

I feel like I would have liked them a little better if they toasted their bread. Sandwich places that sell you hot sandwiches with cold bread is a big no no for me (and everyone else in my family because we went to Ziggy bombs once and collectively decided that was enough).

I always try places twice before giving up. I’ll wait and see if they get better.

But everything was under seasoned/bland, and tasted like the lowest quality of prepared Sysco brand foods.

Alot of the hate for the food is too much, ziggy tho, I used to work for him and he was a nightmare, most of the girls I worked with spent half the shift crying because of how tense it was and he'd comment on the girls who were definitely too young, its a pretty small city so id bet half the hate is for the sandwiches and half is for him

Someone downpost commented that they saw the whole restaurant ogle a teenage girl. That’s enough to lose my appetite for crab Rangoon with more bread around it. Oh wait….

Not surprised. I've seen how he responds to some comments on reviews and social media. Its like an angsty teenager.

The owner is a jerk. He blocks the entrance of my apartment building chain smoking. I asked him if he could not do it right in-front of the door and he said, no. Rude acts like he owns the block.

The food is meh. Got it twice when he was still doing pop ups and it wasn't worth the money or the process either time. I can make a better steak and cheese in my skillet at home for a lot less money and time.

I tried to get a water there, paid or not, and they wouldn't let me. Tried pushing their crappy soda brand instead. Haven't been back since.

Google ciggy bombs and youll have about 50% of your answer. Foods is palatable people are nice place is clean, everything else is subjective opinions.

The new place on the block, especially one with such a massive social media presence, is bound to draw all manner of debate.

I was with a person who asked for their cheese steak sans onions, and they got shamed by the staff for it. I enjoyed my sub, but havent been back since.

I think you've got your answer. Overhyped , mediocre food whose owner isn't liked.

The food isn’t great, isn’t a selling point to me haha

my_ashy_paintbox t1_jdowrxd wrote

When you add so much additional things, it’s no longer a steak and cheese

bradyisking t1_jdoxnwz wrote

Agreed but you don’t have to order their loaded subs. I always just get the Philly Steak and Cheese and it’s great. Overpriced and puts me to sleep but still tasty as heck

Used to get Ziggy Bombs regularly when it was just the truck. I don't know why but the sandwiches seemed to taste better before the store opened. Whether it was because they weren't trying to push many out at once or some other reason I don't know. Though the reason I stopped going was less about the taste and more just how the owner acts sometimes. I'll wish him nothing but the best of luck but right now I just don't feel like driving down to the area to get a steak and cheese. Maybe during the Woosox season I'll stop in and see if things have changed at all.

FWIW, I think the food there is fine. It's not the best, it's not the worst. I probably wouldn't regularly spend $17+ on a steak and cheese but if you want to occasionally treat yourself to something that will taste as unhealthy as it is, it fits the bill. I think they built a really tight brand that they've been able to grow and grow into, and it helped them gain a loyal following early. Their hype may have been manufactured (when it was still just a truck people would wait an hour for their sandwich when it should never take that long to churn out steak bombs) but it got them noticed and talked about. The owner might kinda suck as a person but that's a lot of restaurant workers. So in total I think people are just finding points about this place that they disagree with the most. There are definitely better spots in Worcester, and there are also worse ones.

Senplis t1_jdxkv5c wrote

I heard the owner is an ass because he wanted his own biological kids and his wife who had her own from another man didn't want more and he was a dick about it so she divorced him and now she's getting married to another man soon and he's jealous because she was the love of his life. She was much younger than him supposedly so these creep comments aren't surprising.

ClockNo4364 t1_jdpp7sk wrote

it's because it got really popular. So now there's backlash from people saying its overrated.

jerv19 t1_jdqn8cg wrote

No sir their sandwiches are just mediocre. I can get a better steak sandwich for my money at pickle barrel or central pizza or like 10 other places in like a 2 mile radius from Ziggy bombs.

Slappybags22 t1_jdr2cl3 wrote

It’s 100% fad food. The social media trend of making absurd meals for views rather than considering what it might actually taste like.

There is nothing edgy about under seasoned fries, # 10 cans of Sysco brand cheese whiz, and pre-made frozen crab rangoons on a cheesesteak.
