Worcester tax payers bailing out the police. Isn't supposed to be the other way around?

The police involved should be sentenced to twice the time he served, and without a fari trial.

Worcester PD shining yet again. Another day, another successful lawsuit against them.

This city certainly has found its niche - it absolutely excels at losing millions in lawsuits.

Off the top of my head -

Holden sewer dispute - $14 million (2022 - lost bc city didn’t follow existing agreement w/Holden)

Sky bridge suit - $12.5 million (settlement 2018, lost bc city didn’t abide their promise to build the bridge from major Taylor garage to Hilton Garden inn)

Public records suit - $100k (2022, city got reamed by the judge for illegally withholding police records)

Various police misconduct suits - at least $12 million since 2010 (including this case, there are still several pending cases)

At least $38.5 million since 2018, much of it was probably avoidable if the city solicitors were doing their job and properly advising the city of its obligations.

So, where's Hazelhurst and Doherty now?

Hazzelhurst made $161k, Doherty $149k in 2021. Not the first multi-million settlement Doherty has been involved in. He was named in the Truong case, a 16-year-old girl's coerced confession, that settled for $2.1 million.

Who has to pay this? I live nearby. Will my taxes be affected?

Whenever we see this bullshit we should speak up as tax payers. The police unions are so powerful and the laws protecting police from misconduct are so unbeatable we have to apply leverage the only way we can - through money.

This is WHY you pay your taxes; so cops can break the law with immunity and YOU pay for the fallout.

I'm assuming the DA is doing due diligence and checking back on every case these officers were involved in to check for accuracy .....

Right?
