DCU is pretty good. I'd personally only bank with credit unions.

Would that I had more than but one up vote to give. Dcu is great, credit unions are great, fuck the banks.

I've been a member with DCU for 18 years and literally never had a problem that wasn't fixed almost immediately. No random or overdraft fees, ATM reimbursement, fraud protection saving me thousands from scammers. Now have a mortgage through them and the whole process from pre-qualification to signing the papers was a breeze. Highly recommend.

Do they have a good interest rate for savings account?

1

Intelligent-Sugar554 t1_ir3ktrs wrote

IIRC 6.17% on the first $1,000 in savings account. Balances above that are 0.5%, which is above average. Think Country Bank only pays 0.1% to 0.25%.

Switched from BoA to DCU five years ago. Never looked back. Would recommend.

I love DCU. We have our HELOC thru them, and all our checking and savings accounts. Have to admit, the thing I love most is their hours. Even during the pandemic they were easy to do business with

What do you mean your checking account is indecipherable? I was also switched over to M&T, is there anything I should be aware of?

I've been using Central One Federal Credit Union for a few decades. The service is great.

I’ve also been using Central One for about two decades and agree that their service is great.

My mom helped me open a checking account at Citizens when I was in high school and 15 years later I've never had an issue with them over anything. Definitely recommend and they're ubiquitous throughout New England.

EssJayEnMass t1_ir0kx3w wrote

Central One has been great to work with. Not sure how common this is, but they print debit/credit cards onsite. So when your card info gets stolen, you can get a new one the same day.

coldrunn t1_ir1jf1n wrote

St Mary's does too, but only in Marlborough not in Northborough.

I've been with Central One for 10 years. SMCU since I got a car loan there in 15 😁

NovelNo87 t1_ir14s42 wrote

DCU or any other credit union will usually be better than a regular bank. I specifically recommend DCU because I’ve had them for almost 10 years, my last two car loans and my credit card with the lowest interest rate is with DCU.

I have been very happy with Workers' Credit Union, Worcester Credit Union, and DCU (Yes, I have accounts with all of them)

As a former bank auditor, St Mary's is a bank to be proud of . Most people don't realize how hard it is to try to do it the right way while treating people well.

I don't have a St Mary's near my neighborhood, but if you e got one near you, you should be their customer. They live to serve their clients, employees, and community.

They should pay me for being a hype man, but in the end, documented business processes and good value and due diligence on behalf of clients are the greatest gifts that good business still offers us.

I have also heard they treat their employees like real humans. (I don't know anyone personally there, so I cannot verify that).

I bank and have my mortgage with DCU, and previously an auto loan. They are pretty good and easy to work with

Edit: I also have a mass save loan with Berkshire Bank and they’ve been easy. I had a similar loan with Worcester Credit Union and they (if I am remembering correctly, it was a while ago) had less helpful online features and I had to go in person a couple times. That may have changed in recent years

legalpretzel t1_ir34zl2 wrote

Second Berkshire Bank. I have my heat loan with them also and they have been fabulous over the 4 years we’ve been dealing with them.

I generally prefer credit unions, but as far as banks go Berkshire has been great.

What does decent hours even mean? You can do all your banking online. I use allcom credit union and I love it.

1

andys_socks t1_ir26vj3 wrote

Not everything can be done online or at an atm. It’s good to be able to go to the bank.

You might need to withdraw a specific amount or maybe you need quarters for the laundromat.

Hell, I had EZ Pass tell me not even two days ago they couldn’t accept my debit card or a personal check, told me I would have to get a bank check.

Not an everyday situation, but nonetheless, it’s good to have a bank with available hours.

I signed up with DCU when I first moved here and have been very pleased with them. The only issue is that they don't have many ATMs around the area, but I rarely use them anyway.

1

albalfa t1_ir15u0v wrote

Use SUM ATM's!!! Free, free, free. free if you're with DCU or SMCU (and others but I only use these two). No reimbursement needed--no charge ever gets made in the first place.

ANY bank who is in the SUM network is free ATM when you're with DCU, SMCU, etc.

DCU reimburses up to $5/month of ATM fees!

Not a fan of banks either, but M and T is fine. My transition from Peoples was a little rough but to be expected. Now I’m used to the M and T app and I hardly remember any distinct advantage Peoples had.

I’ve had TD for about 6 years now and they’ve been great. 24/7 phone support (in America) with practically no hold time. Branches are open late. No fees depending on the type of account you create, and the branches are always very nice

I’m in the western mass area and I switched to a credit union as soon as I noticed (and asked) why Peoples United-formerly United Bank which I loved-was taking $5 from each of my savings accounts. She got very snotty and said it was bc I didn’t have enough savings so It’s fee. I’m like yea peace. Going across the street to the credit union
