I think for being the second largest city in New England these stats don’t seem too bad.

It doesn’t seem to break down violent crime though. I’d expect in this time period a rise in crime between people who know each other, ie: domestic violence. I’m shocked at Hadley being so high. Its a nice little quiet town-or so i thought.

The statistics are broken down per capita. It's why Boston who had 39 homicides versus our 9 is further down(up?) on the list than us- they have a larger population. If you did their numbers with our population they'd be # 1.

Hadley has a small population so their incidents equate to a higher per capita.

For reference, the FBI considers violent crime as homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. Those individual occurrences are in the stats for all Worcester County towns at the very bottom of the piece.

Is the population number low or is it me? I see it listed as around 180k but thought the city in 2021 wiuld have been closer to 200k. Probably not a massive shift in the calculation, but odd that its off.

Thanks for the hard numbers. I was being lazy but knew it was north of 200k. Regardless its not 180k, and if the violent crime numbers are accurate this would shift where Worcester ranks. Assuming they are right on the other cities. Its all just odd to me.

FBI provided population estimates. I wasn't about to reconfigure the data they provided. I don't know why they provided pre-census number, but they did. It is noted in the piece before the stats begin.

Same for oak bluffs, They have a little sting of bars on one of the main roads and most nights night cops sit at either end waiting for something to go down.
