It's potentially dangerous having to drive up streets that are ostensibly 2-way but have become 1-way due to huge piles of leaves and branches on either side of the road. The city website clearly gives the pickup schedule, and the dates that you can't put leaves out before, and yet homeowners just dump them in the street weeks early. Would be nice if there was any enforcement of that!

because cars go flying up my street at 10+mph over the speed limit and I don't feel at all bad about making them have to slow down.

Well sure, people drive like maniacs, which is awful. But I don't think that the potential for a head-on collision because someone decided to dump half a tree onto the street for the better part of a month is the best solution, as opposed to a speed bump

Because they have a million other things to worry about. If they're busy going up and down streets handing out civil citations, how are they going to keep up with all of that evidence that needs to be concealed or fabricated?

The real reason is its so low on the priority list unfortunately. It drives me nuts too, a guy up the street from me pushed his out into the street and the edge of the curb this past weekend even though we are literally the very last week of the collections.

Yeah, super annoying. My sister had to park over a small pile of leaves and unbeknownst to her, there was a small brown bag filled with leaves hidden in the pile. The air smelled like a nice fall fire until the car caught fire on the way to my bday dinner. Luckily we all got out right before the whole car was engulfed.

I think it’s the same with ppl putting their recycling in plastic bags. One person does it, so others do..unaware the first person was in the wrong and their stuff doesn’t get picked up.

My house/intersection is a high traffic bus stop; I’m bagging my leaves and bringing them to dropoff

My problem is that they have the dates to put them out. And the last few years they don’t actually grab them until after it snows and the plows smear the piles up and down my street

They do. My in laws got a notice that if they don’t clear their leaves, they’ll get a $200 fine.

As someone who lives on a very popular cut through that saves you 10 seconds of waiting at a red light. I wholeheartedly agree with you. People fly down my street like it's a quarter mile in Fast and Furious.

I also had $6k worth of damage done to my parked car by a hit and run driver. Probably would have a minor dent if they werent going 40mph(caught it on my dash cam).

Yeah, it was wild. My sis is kind a ditz so I'm sure the bag was larger than she made it out to be (based on the flames) and my mom realized the car wasn't in park when we ran out so she GOT BACK IN to put on the e-break, literally pulled her out seconds before the whole thing went up. Not sure about insurance though. I'll ask her and update.

Our leaf pick up isn’t until the end of the month, so my neighbor tried to be a good citizen and rake their leaves into tidy, but rather large pile in a corner of their backyard (visible from the street ). They fully planned to put them in the street when the street signs went up.

They got a letter from DPW saying they were violating city ordinance or something AND threatening a $200 fine if they didn’t remove the leaf pile within 7 days. It was deemed “excessive yard debris”. So they raked them into the street instead.

Jay Fink and the other people who at DPW are a joke.
