Remember when we all voted like, 15 or 20 years ago to ban trapping coyotes because it was mean and those furry little guys didn’t bother anybody? Remember when all the hunters said it’s a bad idea and your previous cats will all go missing?

This has been a big issue in the small towns surrounding Worcester for a decade at least. Welcome to the club.

Cats shouldn’t be outdoors anyways. And the coyote population controls the deer population which controls the tick population which controls tick-borne illnesses.

I’ll take that over some yuppie who can’t take care of their own pets complaining when wild animals behave like wild animals in the wild.

Coyote have no natural predators in Massachusetts and haven’t for at least a century. That means a disproportionate effect on the deer population and other problems that come from them being more habituated in residential settings.

Your link only talks about nuisance ones existing - that’s not necessarily an issue of predation but of human encroachment. It says nothing to your assertion of overwhelmingly harmful effects on the deer population.

Coyotes belong here and don't cause problems for anybody.

Are those wolf/coyote mix? I’ve seen some that really looked like wolves, but I don’t think wolves are too common around here. They were definitely bigger than a coyote. I was terrified man 😂

We have one that walks around during the day. I was about 8 feet from it - sick looking. Animal control does not do anything. Saw the news the other day 3 year old taken and beaten off by the father in California… makes you wonder.

In Holden not far from the Worcester line here - - we have seen them crossing the (very busy) road late at night patrolling the neighborhood.

East side got ‘em. Hear them just about every night. The video from CA with the kid getting snatched was frightening.

Fishing spot I go to in Oxford/Auburn has some big ones around. I’ve been alone a few times and seen/heard them run by, sometimes scarily close. I think they might be a mix because a couple of them really looked like wolves 😳

There is an ecological niche for a large canid predator in New England. With plenty of deer and other prey, wolves would do well here if we let them. Since we killed them all off, coyotes are gradually becoming more like wolves. Pretty cool evolutionary process playing out right before our eyes.
