Hi, I'm a 16-year-old guy going on my first date. I wanted to know of any ideas for a date in the area. I got my license and my own car so I can go around the area, preferably not far; but I can go a bit far. I don't have a lot of money so preferably something that won't destroy my budget. I was hoping to at some point get ice cream, but with the winter all my favorite places are closed so I would appreciate any suggestions for that. I live in Worcester, but I can go maybe 45 minutes away, but I would rather stay in the area. Thank you!

What are some of your interests? What is your date into? Is it a day-time outing or evening?

There are a few small movie theaters nearby that are pretty cool. The Elm in millbury is one of them.

Something inexpensive is the Elm Cinema in Millbury. It's 6 bucks a movie, cash only and they have inexpensive concessions.

A&D pizza is also right across the street and also not too pricey. They have good humor ice cream novelties.

I think the art museum would be cool. They have an Egyptian exhibit right now.

Get your favorite takeout and sit at elm park if the weather stays nice. People watch and just hang out together, see how you both click. Walk around and look at the geese, be silly, be yourself, and have fun. Cross the bridges and take selfies together. Walk down to the bean counter afterwards to grab a fancy coffee drink and share a dessert.

Go up to the shoppes at Millbury. You got the movies, cold stone, uno, fridays, 110 grill etc. I’m sure you could kill a few hours up there especially where it’s warmer out.

Isn’t there some ancient meme about a first date at a Papa Gino’s in Brockton?

The movie theater in west boylston, its way more inexpensive than the bigger theaters. There is also froze zone right up the street and they have awesome gelato. There is also DQ on that road as well as Gerardos if youre feeling some italian pastries instead. Olis, attached to Gerardos, serves some really good food as well. You also have table twelve right there ans Brown Rice for thai food as an option. Theyre all within 5-7 minutes of each other.

You could do Roller Kingdom in Hudson and then go to New City Microcreamery (also in Hudson) after! They have fantastic homemade ice cream, coffee, etc.

Go to a AHL hockey game! They have a team in Springfield and in Providence. It’s pretty cheap, and a ton of fun!

Tower hill botanical gardens is great, inexpensive, local, and easy to start conversations. Since it’s a first date if you find yourself in an awkward silence … “oh look at that plant” boom awkward silence solved.

If she’s athletic and into more physical stuff you go to central rock? Otherwise, movie theatre is a classic, bowling/axe throwing places, of course food nothing too fancy. Good luck 👍🏻, I’d love to be 16 again lol

Folks are giving some great suggestions here. Let’s rewind just a bit, though. What do you think your date would like to do? If you’re not sure, that’s ok, but if you do, I recommend using that knowledge to your advantage. (Obviously, it should also be something you would like to do.)

I also suggest if you decide upon an outdoor activity that you make a backup indoor plan in case the weather stinks on the day of your date. Trying to make a change like that at the last minute can add a lot of unnecessary stress for you.

Here’s something that I haven’t seen suggested yet:

Worcester scavenger hunt

There’s a date night option here that’s $20/per person. I’m not sure what your budget will bear, but this could be fun, and would certainly be different than a lot of things you might do. The tickets are good for up to 2 years, so you won’t be out the $$ if the weather is gross.

Also, I have some unsolicited advice. When you go to pick up your date, whatever you decide to do, bring them a flower. Not a whole bouquet, just one flower is enough. It doesn’t matter where you get it, whether it’s from a florist or the grocery store. People in general don’t give flowers anymore, and underestimate the value it will have to your date. The mileage you’ll get from it is wild. Your date will tell everyone they know about it. It also means that if, Dog forbid, something doesn’t go as planned, they’ll still look upon you as potential second date material, should you decide you’d like to go out again.

We’re all rooting for you!

I second that! Some of the best dates that I have ever had was walking around with a girl, people watching, and just enjoying their presence. Come to find out, one of my favorite movies a few years ago is Before Sunrise where they just do the exact same thing I just said.
