Unfortunately the Walmart and Target in Worcester are not that great. Are there any locations that are better? I don’t mind driving 30 minutes to a different location if it means it’s better stocked and more organized.

Also, is there anything that can be done to improve these stores? It’s a shame that I have to go elsewhere when there’s one here.

The Walmart in Leicester is huge, has groceries and is usually not too busy with it being in a small town.

Second this. Its a nice walmart we go often enough.

There’s a Target and Walmart that are both pretty decent on route 9 if you’re looking for both stores in the same vicinity. Otherwise I’d go with the Leicester Walmart and the Millbury Target any day of the week.

Also if you don’t mind the drive, Whitinsville has a nice Walmart that never gets too crowded and is right off 146

It is nicer than the Worcester Walmart, but every time I've been there it usually seems more crowded. Maybe a time of the week thing.

Someone shoplifted a 65" TV set from the Worcester Walmart.

That's impressive in its own way.

tinymsv OP t1_j2s74rz wrote

How is that possible? Lol

GoblinBags t1_j2sh3wg wrote

You pick up the TV and you walk out because Walmart's policy for dealing with this stuff is to document it, call the police, and not have a confrontation with the thief.

I go to the Northborough Walmart and Target. They’re right across the street from each other! Plus a bunch of other grocery stores, restaurants and shops along rt 9.

throw_away_899210 t1_j2t0e49 wrote

+1. Northborough Walmart is the best supercenter that is close by and the produce is pretty ok! For more of a quick errand, the West Boylston Walmart (by the movie theater) isn't bad either.

(edit): if you go further down rt. 9 towards Westborough, there are some other stores like Burlington Coat Factory, Lowes, a Dollar Tree?)

Greyb00k t1_j2vd8up wrote

That used to be the Walmart and Target I went to for years. Then I moved to Worcester and was pretty shocked at how awful they were by comparison. Northborough/Westborough spoiled me 😔

I went to the Target in Lincoln Plaza a few weeks ago and the place was trashed. Lowes was just as bad if not worse. wtf is going on over there?

11

xtraman122 t1_j2sj3xl wrote

Customers treat the stores like trash and the staff can’t keep up with the destruction they cause. Same with the Worcester WalMart, usually looks like a war zone in there.

Psychological-Bad937 t1_j2ss7ck wrote

During the Christmas season, the target had more people in it than I've ever seen before. More people on the days before Christmas compared to even Black Friday. Plus they blocked off the main corridor because of the lines. Staff likely felt no motivation to clean up during this period. Also the milk aisle at that target smells horrific.

its-a-crisis t1_j2to6l5 wrote

That area is the store has stunk for years. The recent renovations did not change that. The overall messiness seems to have gotten worse since the renovations though.

Their curbside pickup is great. I’ll sometimes order groceries to pickup after work, and as long as you use the app to let them know you’re on your way, I’ve never had to wait more than 2-3 minutes.

The Target in Millbury is pretty good and not that much further of a drive down 146 than the Worcester Walmart. Its a fair bit further down 146 but the Walmart in Northbridge is clean, stocked, and not very crowded.

flyingsquirrelsftw t1_j2th4og wrote

I agree about the Northbridge Walmart. Always clean and able to find what I need.

ghettoblaster78 t1_j2v8q49 wrote

Avoid Millbury Target. And never buy perishable food there, especially chicken and beef. I’ve found rotten meat there several times since they added groceries there (I’m talking green mold!) and have reported it to employees who just leave it in the cooler. I met a Worcester health inspector once who told me something like Target brings in so much money that the town and inspectors look the other way at almost all violations. The only time the health inspectors did anything was when the Pizza Hut inside had some major issue with dirty equipment and improper food storage—and technically that was on Pizza Hut, not Target.

Lastly, I always avoid it due to one cashier being open in the mornings and the absurd amount of pallets, stock people, boxes, and rolling carts blocking the aisles. The place is a disaster! It takes forever to check out and if you ever need to return something, block off an hour on your schedule.

1

sunshinepills t1_j33vb36 wrote

Wonder if that's why they eliminated the Pizza Hut in that Target for the weird fresh food section that is now by the front?

xxlaur77 t1_j2t4nkn wrote

I just moved here from out of state and was appalled at the state of the Target. I found bread that was a week expired.

5

masshole4life t1_j2trst6 wrote

that target is insane. the customers do trash the place but there's always pallets of stuff blocking aisles and you can't even get your cart through. like a third of the aisles, day or night, year-round, are blocked with pallets.

a literal third of the store is inaccessible at any given time. it's lunacy. then on top of that the customers dismantle every shelf and rack of stuff like bulls in a china shop. shoes flung everywhere, clothes and accessories all over the floor, packages ripped open, discarded wrappers of stolen items, it's a real nightmare going there.

corporate should close it down and try again in a different spot because that place is totally out of control.

Swuzzle t1_j2s5e0k wrote

The Target in Marlborough on Rt 20 is great; it's always well stocked and organized. The one in Westborough on Rt 9 is also fine, but I really don't mind the Lincoln Plaza one. The Walmart in Northborough off Rt 9 is also pretty good, infinitely better than the one in Worcester.

4

Zinski t1_j2t6b79 wrote

I go to that target a bunch and never noticed anything out of the ordinary as far as targets go.

Idk if I'm just going to shit targets or I just don't even understand how good it can be

3

Present-Evidence-560 t1_j2u1t4y wrote

As someone who has worked at that target, it’s absolute hell. Cleanliness of the store is not one of the metrics corporate looks at so that is always the last thing to do IF you get to it. Also the managers just don’t care either, they’d prefer to stand around and watch you struggle to keep up with 2-3 peoples worth of work.

"Basic Target Millennial" here, I've been to all of them in the area and my Target power rankings are:

  1. Marlborough West - conveniently off 290 and near the mall, rarely crowded, well-stocked.
  2. Westborough - Route 9 is a pain but if you know shortcuts it's not bad to drive to. Also well-stocked, but the customers are downright aggressively entitled.
  3. Marlborough East - Lower in the rankings only because it's a supreme pain to get to unless you're already in that part of Marlborough (it's across town from where 290/495 lets you out, so you're driving 10-15 minutes off the highway). But it's a "newer" Target and a very pleasant shopping experience.
  4. Millbury - The rest of the stores in this shopping center boost Millbury's rankings higher, but it's really just two Worcester Targets in a trenchcoat. It's either well stocked or looted, no in-between, and like others have said do NOT buy fresh food there. It also hasn't had the Target Remodel yet so the layout is cramped.
  5. Leominster - This would be higher if you didn't have to take 190 to get here, but a 10/10 shopping experience. Quick curbside pickup, well-stocked, and a very large store.

I'm not as well-versed in Walmart shopping, but I always go to Leicester or Westborough, whichever I'm closest to when I need to go there. The Hudson Walmart is, and always has been, terrible. West Boylston is a throwaway Walmart in that it's fine but I don't know anyone who goes there as a first choice.

If you go to the Framingham Target, the Framingham Walmart is just a quarter mile away and seems bigger than the Hudson one.

If you are going to the Hudson Walmart, you drive near the Marlboro Target next to the Solomon Pond Mall. It is pretty decent and only a few minutes off I290.

2

Chef_Dani_J71 t1_j2t640x wrote

I like Ware, but that is more like an hour down Rt 9. Leicester and Oxford are not bad, so a close second choice.

Isn't there a Walmart in West Boylston? I never been, but seen it on a bus schedule. The only time I went to the Worcester Walmart is once when I had to wait for an appointment at DCU.

jammer45 t1_j2usuap wrote

The Walmart in Worcester is on the site of the old dump. Unfortunately it has retained a lot of the old traits of said dump . Smelly piles of refuse laying about in disarray everywhere no organization . . Giant seagulls guarding their territory with a fierceness only a starving lion could match. They should charge 5 bucks at the door and just let you pick through it .

I don't really get what most of you have against the Worcester Target? Granted I've had the good sense to avoid it (and basically every store) leading up to Christmas, and I've never tried to buy perishable food items from them, but as far as everything else goes I've generally been able to find what I was looking for and check out in 20 minutes or so.
