Hello fellow Worcester residents!

Today (and not just today!) the Worcester Public Library is gifting vaccines with $75 Walmart gift cards.

The Worcester Public Library is holding vaccine clinics every Wednesday 3-7 and Saturday 12-5 and they offer $75 gift cards to those getting vaccinated. If you go with a family of 5, you get $75 for each person receiving a vaccine.

Given the need for vaccines this time of year and added benefit of a substantial giftcard, I wanted to let the Worcester community know about this!

It tends to be much less busy on Wednesday's.

I'm a medical student and am one of the vaccinators today. We have more vaccinators than patients currently so it's a good day to come ☺️

For information on timing of first, second, and booster doses, here is a link to the CDC's updated guidelines

Edit: for those asking if you can come if you lost your vaccine card regardless of where you had your first doses, YES you can. We will give you a new card.

do they do boosters?

HoneyBun21222 OP t1_j2z5vpn wrote

Yes! Bivalent boosters for Moderna and Pfizer, adult and pediatric (Pfizer age 5+, Moderna for age 6+).

We also have novavax vaccines for people who prefer not to receive an mRNA vaccine.

Man they really gotta bribe people to get it now?

It's specifically targeting underrepresented communities where vaccine hesitancy is higher. This program is not for every city in Massachusetts. MA is trying to get vaccine and booster numbers up in areas where people are hesitant due cultural medical hesitancy or people who previously had a difficult time going to get a vaccine. These vaccines also are fully covered and no one needs to fill out medical insurance numbers.

Beccachicken t1_j31eozi wrote

Vaccine hesitancy is higher because folks do not trust a medical establishment that exploits their poverty by furnishing a bribe.

How evil.

🗿 I always miss the gift cards because I got the initial series and both boosters as soon as I became eligible for each. Can I get a back pay giftcard? Lol

Same, I'll let you know if I manage to convince them to give me one 😂

A friend of mine did this when they were giving our stop and shop gift cards! She just showed her card and said she didn’t get a gift card and they gave her one.

Do you need your card for a booster?

If you don't have your card they will be able to look up your prior doses and give you a new card.

They can look up when we got our 1st and 2nd shot (or only 1 shot i got the johnson&johnson one so i mever needed the 2nd shot) no matter where we got it?

I'm not positive if they can look it up out of state but if it was in MA they definitely should be able to.

I'm one of the vaccinators, not one of the registration people. Everyone shows up to my station with a card and I haven't seen anyone get turned away, so I assume they can look it up but am not involved with those details of the process so I'm not positive.

Edit: I can find out during my next shift

I would appreciate sooo much that if you could find out! I didnt get vaccinated out of state. It was in mass. I used to be on the methadone clinic and got vaccinated there. I lost my card and i no longer go to the clinic since i weened off it over a year ago so i dont know how i would get proof of being vaccinated if i needed to get it. I mean worst case i guess i could just get round 1 again although i dont know if that would mess me up lol

Thanks for letting me know. I may well show up on Saturday*. Do we have schedule or is it walk-in with your vaccination card?

edit: originally wrote Friday.

Walk in! With your vaccine card if you still have it. If you lost it they should be able to look up your info and give you a new card.

Comments are locked here because it’s getting uncivil. If you want the booster - great resource posted. If you don’t believe in the vaccine- move on.

Does it stop COVID, stop COVID symptoms or neither?

−9

ClockNo4364 t1_j30ldg7 wrote

It can do both. Not 100% guaranteed you won't still get Covid, but it will bring the severity way down.

6

HoneyBun21222 OP t1_j30uuke wrote

All of the covid vaccines drastically reduce severity and prevent hospitalizations and death. The new bivalent booster is particularly effective.

People who received the bivalent vaccine were 84% less likely to be hospitalized for COVID-19 than those who were unvaccinated and 73% less likely to be hospitalized than those who received 2+ doses of the monovalent vaccine.

Adults who received a bivalent booster were 38% to 45% less likely to seek emergency or urgent care than those who received monovalent vaccination only with the last dose 5-7 months earlier and 11+ months earlier, respectively.

I mean yes, it may be a government bribe to get people to get vaccinated but the cost benefit must be positive otherwise they wouldn’t do it.
