Hi there, I'm really shy and struggle to make friends IRL, so I was wondering if anyone on here would be down. I'm kind of quiet, don't do well at parties. But I love other things, like going on walks/hiking, books, movies, really into politics but you don't need to be. Any suggestions where to meet people would also be good, I'm already aware of That's Entertainment!

The That’s Entertainment disclaimer lol. You should look into some volunteer opportunities. Lots of stuff always going on. The Greater Worcester Land Trust has a lot of outdoor stuff if you’re looking for that

If you're into board, card, or other types of similar gaming, Redemption Rock Brewery is hosting a gaming night this Thursday from 6-9PM. Great community that welcomes new folks with open arms. Plenty of tea, coffee, and snacks for those not of age.

It is very difficult making friends around the city. I'm a guy and into Post-punk and Goth music. If you are at all interested in hanging out, we can get coffee across from That's Entertainment over at the stop cafe. Let me know.

I live in Worcester (31f) and have similar issues due to pretty bad social anxiety. It takes an inordinate amount of mental preparation for me to go meet up with people or hang out. Despite I’m always open to any new friends that might have the patience for how stupidly long it takes to come out of my shell.

Yes same here--Ouch. While I cannot and would not claim that I know your pain, I do know that nothing worth doing--nothing--is easy. I wish nothing but fair skies and tailwinds along your path, friend.

Older guy here but I've used https://www.meetup.com/ and met all sorts of good and interesting people and friends and NO it's not a dating or hook up site :)

I've come back and re-read this comment 3 times and I am still smiling.

This, coming from you OP, after having just described yourself as "really shy and struggle to make friends IRL...kind of quiet...", seems to be a huge leap of courage reaching out to a stranger in public with a reciprocal offer of friendship.

Am I just in a sentimental mood tonight? This just really f'in rocks and I think it is beautiful.

I know a group of LGBTQ+ people who go rock climbing together, but I don't think they're from Worcester.

There's a meetup at FreePlay Worcester the first Thursday of every month at 7pm though. There's lots of LGBTQ+ people and allies :)

Even if you don't like arcade games, you can always just come out and drink with us. They've got a great bartender and lots of good beer/mixed drinks.

Hope this helps.

I go on hikes with my parent's dog occasionally on the mid-state trail.

Do you know any other good hiking spots in the area? I've been wanting to take her.

Same boat. I just moved to Worcester a year ago so my new years resolution in to at least try some of the more nerdy meetups. First one is going to be that Redemption Rock game night.

I think you are thinking of the Trevor Project, which focuses on suicide prevention for LBGTQ youth.

November Project is a fitness group that's been active in Worcester for about 5 years now or so, they do various workouts around the city (all for free) very often in the early morning. It is a very welcoming and friendly group if you can haul your butt out of bed at 5am. They are active on Facebook and have a newsletter list you can get on for info.

Thank you!! That sounds really nice. Maybe I'll go to the February one even though 7 is kinda late for me during the work week. I used to go out every single weekend but that entire friend group stopped talking to me when I came out. I still try to get out and do things but I'm sick of doing everything alone. Plus going with other people will force me to not back out

Sorry I missed your message. Hope you had a chance to check out the event, but if not, we had D&D, Pathfinder 2, Alien RPG, Clank!, Blood on the Clocktower, Catan, Exploding Kittens, Ticket to Ride, Wingspan, Song of Blades and Heroes, and a handful of other board games that I didn't get a chance to peep!
