I see the downvotes and I've been forced to reconsider. It turns out that you're right. Gannett is a fine organization and pet obituaries are a fine priority for the only regional newspaper of note.

Gannett is garbage, but since obits are basically ads and this is a separate section, I'm okay with it.

Me too. As CoolAbdul says these are paid notices and are customer submitted. Gannett just collects the money which I bet is average $200.
