"trust me!" said my mentor, hanging a boiled potato from a string. "certainty is the crucial point to do any chaos magic, even beginner ones like the one I am teaching you right now. Now, stand on your head."

"what?!" I asked, frowning. "how is that going to cast a disassembling spell?"

"just do it! But be certain that it will work."

"but it obviously won't!"

"okay, I'll demonstrate."

The old man stood on his head, hit a tree with a frying pan, took out a pair of socks and put a ball in it, smelled a rock, read the cover of a novel, took out a spoon and dug a hole, buried some ham in the hole, threw a chess piece in the air, licked a ladder, and poked himself in the armpit with a stick, all whilst having a serious expression on his face.

Then sent a giant volley of black fireballs towards a target, obliterating it while I stood there both shocked, impressed and confused.

I painted a blue star on the grass and performed the hand gestures. This was the ritual for increased strength. The star glowed, as did my hands. Then, a fly flew above the star. Oh no. The ritual's been messed up. I watched as my left hand faded away from existence. I panicked. The star turned red. Okay, there's a way to fix this. I need an Enix Gem. They can be found in demon lions. I went into my house, grabbed my sword, and ventured to a cave that was rumored to have one. I arrived at he mouth of the cave, already seeing a sleeping lion's silhouette. I walked toward it quietly. It lifted its head. It saw me and sprang up. I rushed at it, aiming for the temple. It ran at me. My blade pierced right into the head. I let go of my sword. I jumped back to avoid it. It stood for a second before collapsing. It dissolved into liquid, and among the liquid was the gem.

Back home, I placed the gem on the star. My left hand faded into existence. I went to a rock about half my size and pushed it to test this strength. It felt as though I was pushing feathers.

The key thing in my opinion is that the ritual doesn't matter, as long as you believe that it will have the required effect.

This then leads to every chaos magician having wildly different rituals for exactly the same spell.
