"Once you do this, there is no going back." She spoke to me as if I had never considered the repercussions.

I have been studying for centuries. I have read every script. I have absorbed every bit of this world, this universe that I could. Untold horrors have been done in my name.

"Lilith, we can't stop now," I spoke to her like the companion she is and is deserving of, my voice calm. "Look at what I- at what we have done. Stopping now would mean it was all for nothing."

"I know. It can't be for nothing. And it never has been for nothing." She wanted to appear brave, but her face betrayed her. "It was for them."

"For them, yes. But also for us." We both knew deep down that there was triumph and defeat in this vast emptiness we stood in.

No, not stood. Floated.

Floating in the vastness of "the great beyond". Two lost souls, aching to be found. It's just us now. The fault lies with both of us. She was the reason and I was the revelation.

She held the only text I hadn't yet spoke from. "So will you speak the beginning?"

We agreed long ago that I could not and would not speak from this. I could pull reality from imagination. In the past, I had tried to change the truth by speaking it. But truth is subjective. Truth lives in the hearts of man and man will bend that truth to his whim.

"I will try."

"You will do more than try!" Neither of us were unfamiliar to her passion. Her passion is what drove me to destroy what we had. Her passion is what also drove me to build everything that had been lost. Her passion. My wildest dreams lay in that passion. "You will speak and it will give back what we have unjustly taken from everything."

"But... I will lose you. We will lose everything. I'll lose myself, too." There was no melancholy in my voice. I knew what needed to be done. As did she.

"We will lose each other, yes. But we stand to gain more than all we have ever had. We can create a more fair world. More fair than what we were born into. More fair for those who will come after us." She spoke through tears. Tears of sadness and tears of a hopeful tomorrow.

"I will do this. But you must forgive me." The tears started to fill my eyes as well.

She reached out an ethereal hand and wiped my cheek. "There is nothing to forgive. You have given me the world. Give me this new world and make it in the image of all we have learned."

We remained there, still. It felt longer than any of our meditations and eons of silence. But as soon as it was over, it felt as if it had passed in an instant.

"Goodbye, Lilith."

"Goodbye, Adam." We waited just a moment, eyes locked in eternal love. "Speak"

My eyes closed on her face for the last time. I opened my mouth to speak but couldn't find the words. As my mouth began to close, her hands grasped mine as if to urge me on.

I spoke.

"Before the beginning, there was a vast emptiness. There alone was The Destroyer. Using the wisdom that can only be acquired through endless age and immense loneliness, he made a decision. A decision to begin again. This is the account of The Beginning."

I wanted to approach this with the concept of how some people treat "creation" as fiction and others treat it as "non-fiction" while considering the lens of reality and imagination being up to interpretation.

There's an argument to both but truly, it doesn't matter what any individual thinks. It's your personal interpretation and anything in your philosophy is up to you.

I hope that no one takes this as a personal offense or a challenge to their beliefs. My goal was to raise the question and let you, the reader answer it.

Thanks.

This is an amazing story, and very well and touching written. You should be proud of yourself. I personally would have written in a very different direction but this idea is ingenious.
