Two men are standing infront of the door, in yellow labcoats, notebooks by their side and a pen inside their pockets. It is silent, dead silent. They stare at the door and onto its lock, the dull, mundane colours of the empty room surrounding them engulfing them. One of them checks his wristwatch.

'It's been quite a bit above average. Should we sent somebody in?' he says, putting his hand back behind him where it was, his eyes not leaving the sight of the door.

'He'll get out. Trust me' says the other man, slightly older with small round glasses and an elegant white beard.

The two wait, the first one goes front and takes his hand up as to knock the door

'Not yet' says the other man motioning at him to step back.

They sit back and wait, a drop of sweat falls down the face of the first man. He quickly brushes it off.

'Now James, it's not the first time you're doing this.' says the second man.

'Yes... Yes Dr. Comb. Indeed.' says James, visibly stressed out.

'And how did it go the other times?' says Comb, trying to comfort him.

'They all came back. Sir.'

'Good. And it will happen again, you can go if you want, get a cup of tea and calm down.'

The sound of the door unlocking interrupts them, a man comes running out, he pushes and locks immediately, he has visible scars and bruises on him. 'I'll give my report later.' he says, as he sits against the wall and tilts his hair back in relief.

'See I told you' says Comb, now looking at James.

'Told him what?' shouts the man that came out of the door, 'That there were gonna be giant squid monsters on the other side? What the fuck kind of key even was that?'

'One from the lovecraft collection' says Comb, he pauses a bit 'Now lets get you somewhere safe and warm' he continues, wrapping a blanket around the man and escorting him to a different room.

This thing was found about 30 years ago, we were lucky enough for no government to try to get their hands on it, well, lucky enough to manage to hide it from them. God knows what they would do with this power. It can be the most mundane normal room at the other side of it. Practically a portal to whatever room the key would normally open the door to would lead. But some keys are special. First of all some lead to places that have no other visible entry or exit except for the purple door, those places appear to only exist through the door and can be mundane rooms, or things a bit more surreal. Broken keys can lead to fractured versions of the world. No person has so far been seen in these worlds, but other things, monsters, are found frequently. Very rarely a sentient one is found and the few times those were found they were either unintelligible or incredibly sociopathic. All have refused to exit the door with all means that are available to them. Some have even preferred death to exiting.

Science cant make sense of it, religion surely cant make sense of it, no mention of it in any text, historic or otherwise. This is the real Stonehenge, or worse, the things it implies. This thing implies that we do not understand the universe, the places it has lead to nullify or simply ignore the laws of physics, sometimes all at once, almost as if to mock us. This thing is here to prove to us, remind us, that the universe is untameable, unsolvable. But we run tests on it anyway, we travel through it everyday in hopes of making some sense, of finding some reason. I don't believe we will. But atleast its fun trying.

[THIS STORY TAKES PLACE IN NANTES, FRANCE, IN THE YEAR 1978]

You wake up in a large, vivid room, painted white with chips in the paint, with no windows and a single purple door. Once you stumble upon the door, you notice 6 different key sitting on a short, dark taupe colored table. Each is a different shape and color. The first key is red, that has a heart on the end of the key. The second key is orange, it has the shape of a phoenix on the end of the key. The third key is yellow, the end of the key has the shape of a star on it. The fourth key is green, along the bottom is a leaf.  The fifth key is blue, the end of the key has a butterfly on it. The last key is the color purple. However, the last key is rather different from the other ones. It had a shape of a flower on the end. But engraved on the purple key says… “WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE THIS KEY”.
After reading the engraved message, you take 2 steps back and look at all the keys. You have a puzzled look on your face and start to try to find another way to exit. You sit down and ponder on ways to get out of this empty, lifeless room. Out of nowhere, A note slips under the purple door you observed earlier. You think to yourself, “I haven't seen this note before…” Before reading the note, you look around the room to see if any other people are around you, Then you read the note. “THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY OUT OF HERE.” You fold up the note and throw it away from you as far as you could, and go right back to the keys on the table. Now, you notice another note. “Each key does a different thing for you, it could be either good or bad… You can only use ONE key if you don't want to be confined in this room eternally.” You look at the shape of the keys, you analyze all of them for hours, Finally you decide to pick. Without thinking about the message, you pick the purple key. You think to yourself,  “When have flowers ever hurt anybody?”
You open the door and finally leave the room. All you see is a natural flower garden with a long stone path. There is a sign, but you do not care to read it. The sign reads… “DO NOT TOUCH THE FLOWERS.” You walk down the path, and you notice a bee hive, and bees taking nectar from the flowers and back to the hive. You reach the end of the path, and you observe the flowers… Furthermore, you go up to a purple hibiscus flower and smell it. “It just smells so lovely!” You say out loud to yourself, then you pluck the flower from the shrub, and the atmosphere goes silent.
It starts to rain, and you look around, you see bees. The bees aren't in a good mood. There are more bees than your fear level at that moment. You were fearful of the bees, you stood still in the rain. Then, the bees attacked you, after they are done, you lay on the ground and wake up the next morning. You go down the path again in search for the purple door. Unable to find the door, you continue to walk back down the path, while you sob. You approach vines with spikes, you keep walking down the path ignoring the vines, but suddenly… You feel the spiking vine come through your mouth. Not only that, but you were impaled. The vines return to their rightful spot, with your lifeless body still though the vine. Nobody ever found you.
Your lover files a report to the police that you haven't come home in about 48 hours. From the years 1978 to 1997 they tried to investigate your disappearance, But gave up after finding no evidence whatsoever of where you could have gone. In the year 2022, the public still wonders of where you possibly went.

[Poem]

Three keys quite different from each other

Varied in size, shape, and hue

One of gold, second of silver, third of copper

Longing to perform their duty

A plum colored door awaits for a purpose

Its hinges desperate for friction

But what will each key reveal

For that is the question

The gilded key is heavy in hand

Embellished in intricate designs

Turned to the left to expose a wintry land

Piercing frigid air

Key of slate, lightweight and smooth

Opens to darkness, black as night

An all consuming void, impending doom

It seeks out to devour the light

The copper key is certain of its cause

As it pivots to the right

It opens with confidence, not giving pause

Warmth radiates from within

As if everything good has been contained

Nothing seen or felt like it before

Key of lesser metal, worth just as much

If not more

Probably go to her plane of oblivion. I wouldn’t be surprised if the door is in the plane, and you use the key to get access to the plane, then the key can be used as a replacement to any other key.
