Mice in the ceiling

We had a cat years ago who would troll us shamelessly - she'd get all wide-eyed staring up at a corner in the ceiling, and when my wife and I would try to see what she was looking at, we'd look back at her and she'd be staring right at us with a look on her face like "hahah - got you!"

I miss her so much.

Mice, lizard, etc are in the walls or above the ceiling.

As a southerner, who lives in an old house next to crop fields, I have some experience πŸ˜†

My cat will look at the wall behind my bed about a foot or two above my head. It's a fun game.

We have a black cat that once in a blue moon will start wandering the house and meowing in the middle of the night. We think she sees a random ghost and starts talking to it.

I almost always find a flying insect or light reflecting off my oscillating fan that my cats are obsessed with when this happens...almost always

Cats can see infrared, so something might be reflecting there that you can't see.

You also might have mice.

All my experience with cats convinces me that they are much more sensitive to "ghosts" than humans.

By which I mean, I don't think ghosts are literally real, but that there are explicable phenomena that give people spooky impressions that make them think haunting is happening - and cats are much more sensitive and reactive to whatever those are.
