Hey y'all, I'm a 24 y/o Asian dude who moved to Mt. Vernon from California a couple weeks ago for a software dev job. I have no friends here yet and I have a bit of social anxiety going outside especially in a place that I'm not as familiar with. Where are the best places to eat/meet up with people? Preferably, some places within walking distance since I don't have a car here. For hobbies, I like playing video games, watching anime, and riding my bike.

I’d recommend checking out Baltimore bike party. Last Friday of every month they start near mount vernon. Great way to see the city and bike. Routes are posted on Facebook and Instagram.

Welcome to Baltimore and Mount Vernon!

There's an old thread posted that's very helpful, and search this sub for other suggestions.

Baltimore is a friendly town, make eye contact, smile and nod when you pass people on the street, go and patronize local small businesses. Don't be afraid to start conversations - people are very down to earth.

Baltimore Bike Party is a great idea, follow their Insta. Check out Salvage Arc on Insta ( he posts here as TopS3cr3t), maybe go to one of his events. Good luck!

Two tips for Mount Vernon - the BEST pho is at Mekong Delta on Charles Street. I get mine to go and get 2 meals of the most delicious, flavorful broth. Get your Asian groceries at Po Tung, 300 block of Park Ave.

No Land Beyond might be up your alley too if you're interested in table-top games. But it's ~2 miles north from the general Mt. Vernon area. They have events and a very casual vibe. Also, their drinks and food were great and so were the staff. As someone that likes video games and anime, this place was a great start at meeting people.

It’s super easy to bike there from Mt Vernon! Just go straight up Maryland Avenue bike lane. Takes only a few minutes

Join a run club (there’s one every day of the week); go to charm city trivia, pick a spot, see if a random team will let you join (we’ve picked up several players like that).

Orient Express is solid, if you order off their sichuan menu. In MV, got a lot of opinions. I loved Allora, Ash bar is fun but over priced, always had soft spots for Cafe Fili and Indochine. Sammy’s Trattoria can be great. Can not be. Don’t sleep on Soups On. Baby on Fire is better than Dooby and Bun Shop fight me. Other people like Wet City and swear that I’m wrong about it. Minato and Aloha are there and will scratch an itch but there are absolutely better spots. Station North, Old Goucher, Remington, etc. are an easy bike ride and have a lot of really interesting spots.

For PC, my favorite games are League of Legends and Hearthstone. I also have a Switch where I've been enjoying the new Pokemon games

I play a bunch of Dota so we can't be friends. On a more serious note, my Discord is "Randy Selimi#1418" if you want to add me. I moved here about 4 months ago and I'm also a software developer.

It's so easy to make friends in Baltimore just chat with your neighbors, and people working in local shops and bars and they'll become your friends. That's what makes Baltimore amazing

If you are into road biking there is a sunday group ride out of racepace trek on key highway that skews younger than most group rides I attend.
