The last post on this that I found was 9 years ago. So asking this generation of redditors, if you can eat one crabcake, which one you got? Coming into town for a stressful medical appointment for my wife at JH so want to treat her to something fun. Thank you!

No G&M?

I used to be a G&M loyalist but the last couple times I've been there their crab cakes were dull, full of filler and just didn't hit right. For the price they charge its a rip.

Ahh. That’s a real shame. I was assuming that the exclusion of Atlas is due to the reported selective application of their dress code to exclude people of color. It’s a bit of a relief that’s not the case for G&M’s exclusion. I enjoy wings at G&M now and again.

It’s usually more about Atlas’ connection to Sinclair Broadcasting, general douche-baggers of owners, takeover of corporate restaurant group in areas where indie restaurants used to be plentiful, and then their history of discriminating against POC.

That word salad is impressive! A company making investments legally is a more of a problem than racism. Okay. You do you.

Last time I had them they were fine. 'No G&M' is like Eikiban at this point, just a mindless meme some here parrot.

bluejegus t1_j7i50qt wrote

I don't want fine if I'm paying for a crab cake though. I want damn good. Besides that, the place seems to attract exclusively the oldest, worst drivers in that area. The average age of their dining room is probably 55+

TheCaptainDamnIt t1_j7idwu6 wrote

I love how most of your problems have nothing to do with the crab cakes. Like you're so wrapped up in automotive and age identity politics you can't even enjoy food.

bluejegus t1_j7ii1ec wrote

It's mid. Like I said it's fine but I don't want fine when I'm paying a lot of money for a crab cake.

No, they’re just not good anymore.. for the last 12 years. Look at all the health code shutdowns

Faidley’s is the best crabcake in Baltimore and thus the world.

I really like Pappas. Jimmys seafood might be the closest I can think of near Hopkinsand their crab cakes are good. Are you visiting the main campus of Hopkins or Bayview?

They have been on Reddit for about ten years. This is the first time they have ever posted in the Baltimore subreddit.

  1. How do you not know how to find posts about crab cakes in Baltimore after all that time being on reddit in general.

  2. There is no way you would have a hard time finding a discussion on crab cakes in Baltimore.

I did a search on my phone and that is what came up. Weird!

CaptainObvious110 t1_j7j1mpf wrote

I just did it myself. At the top where the Baltimore subreddit is highlighted next to it put in "best crab cakes" and you will find a number of posts that answer that question.

Near Hopkins, I personally think Dudas is one of the best you can get. Could spend a nice evening out in Fells as well.

I continue to swear by G&M but some folks disagree apparently.

DarthTimGunn t1_j7he2a5 wrote

G&M is fine for crabcakes but not worth the wait. There's always a huge line and honestly I'm not much impressed by the rest of their menu. It's all very meh. There's a place right down the road from G&M called the Olive Grove that has equally good crabcakes and less wait time.

addctd2badideas t1_j7hmt9m wrote

I only go for their crabcakes and when my folks are in town. Boomers are easily impressed by the joint for some reason.

But the crabcakes are good. I haven't had Olive Grove but I'll have to give it a try. My neighborhood is getting a new Faidley's soon so I'll probably swear by that soon enough.

Looking forward to another BMore classic in CVille. The CVille Gourmet also has solid sea food options.

DarthTimGunn t1_j7hn4vc wrote

God you're right it is a boomer thing. G&M always struck me a really old fashioned.

2

HarmlessHeffalump t1_j7idje5 wrote

Pretty sure Olive Grove and G&M are owned by the same people

2

DarthTimGunn t1_j7l4f83 wrote

Hahaha that explains so much! I always thought they had near identical crab cakes.

ladyliferules t1_j7ictrj wrote

I like Olive Grove, too. Always used to be a family outing spot.

Opened a can of worms. Some people say Pappas and Kocos but then some say they are trash. I can give you some recommendations from my list, they are rated Good, Eh and Sucks

Ill send in a message, it has links and stuff

In Harford County, haven’t found one better than Box Hill. Pappas is very good In Baltimore.

Box Hill guy told us they were related to Pappas family. And I agree they are good and they ship too

Kocos was excellent before ppl outside the neighborhood knew they existed. Bc of the volume, the service is now iffy and the quality/ taste of the CC truly depends on the day you go. Real hit or miss. We were loyal but nah!

Jimmy’s was on our sh*t list for using too much filler but we recently gave them a chance and we’re surprised that the quality improved A LOT! Pappas is alright and if you feel like being adventurous, Costas on North Point is good!

1

cakesie1108 t1_j7imboe wrote

Another vote for Costas! Almost never gets mentioned but the consistency of their crabcake through the years is impressive. Don’t let the place fool you, the food is great.

I like Koko’s.

Not sure if they are still good, but my high school job was at Romano’s on Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie and the crab cakes were very good. I haven’t had one in many years, but they used to ship them like G and M does and people ordered them all the time.
