Reply to comment by Maleficent_Thanks_51 in How walkable is the Mt Vernon Area? by juicycasket
This is our first visit to Baltimore so we're totally unfamiliar with the area. Only concern was that is wasn't pedestrian friendly. Our kid just got into Hopkins so we'll be looking at housing but we'd also like to see Inner Harbor and the surrounding museums and catch a baseball game. Thanks for your input!

Congratulations on the admission to Hopkins!
If it's for undergraduate, there's plenty of on campus housing and the neighborhood there is very walkable as well.
If your kid is at Peabody, they'll be living in Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon is central for walking, public transportation, and biking. The Inner Harbor isn't what it used to be, but it's a nice walk from Rash Field to Fells Point. You can also take the commuter boats across the harbor. Check out the American Visionary Arts Museum. Have a wonderful visit!

There’s a free bus (Charm City Circulator) and multiple very cheap ones (BaltimoreLink buses) going north-south on Charles and St. Paul that will get you to the Inner Harbor area
The immediate area of Mt Vernon is very pedestrian friendly and you _can _ walk to the Inner Harbor, but is you don’t feel like covering that distance the buses are very convenient

Also the Hopkins buses stop at the Washington Monument and I've never been IDed getting on one

Yep!
The free bus (the purple line of the Charm City Circulator [CCC]) that goes from Mt. Vernon to downtown picks up at the Washington Monument (Charles and Monument St.—as does the JHU shuttle, which you can just hop on if it comes first). Southbound CCC picks up at St. Paul and Madison or St. Paul and Centre. So you can easily hop on and save some steps either way if you want. The Circulator runs approximately every 15-20 minutes (supposedly), though it does not run late at night.

Inner harbor is easily walkable and we walk to baseball games from the neighborhood all the time! Definitely a good spot for what you’re looking to do
