Nice safe place to stay near Ottobar

Driving up from a few states down south and was told that area is kinda rough. I'm not too worried about stuff like that, but just to be safe in an area I'm unfamiliar with I figured I would ask you guys if a) that's a decent area to stay b) are there any normal/nice hotels in that area and c) if it would make more sense to go back south a little ways before stopping for the night.

I'm not hard to please, any regular like, Holiday Inn or Marriot or whatever hotel is fine as long as my car won't be on blocks when I check out.

The area is not rough, that’s a strange thing for someone to say.

But Baltimore is small enough that you can stay at any hotel down in the harbor or whatever and be able to get to Ottobar pretty fast so just do that if you’re nervous. There’s lots of nice hotels in Mount Vernon too and that’s even closer.

Put it this way: I live within walking distance of Ottobar, and definitely have been to places that feel uncomfortable. Ottobar and the immediate area isn't one of them.

I lived next to Ottobar for 2 years. I am well aware that area is perfectly fine. I was merely commenting on the other persons comment, “that area is not rough, that’s a strange thing for someone to say”. For someone who doesn’t know the area, how is that strange to assume a place in Baltimore might be rough.

For what it's worth the person was from Rockville and the other was from somewhere actually in Baltimore. And they weren't like "you gonna die" they were just like "make sure you stay somewhere safe". Like I said, I'm not too concerned but if asking a question is all it takes, may as well haha.

Hotel Indigo Downtown is really nice. Has a good hotel bar that stays open late. And the neighborhood it is in, Mt. Vernon is not only cool but walkable, has restaurants, museums, coffeehouses, and neat architecture. It's close to Ottobar too.

If you do stay in that neighborhood take a walk around and look at the "townhouses" the rich people used to live in. George Peabody, Emily Post, Johns Hopkins, Enoch Pratt. Also check out The Engineers Club and The George Peabody library for cool interiors and woodwork. For eats... Afgan Restaurant, Brewers Art, Tio Peppe's, The Helmand, Marie Louis Bistro. Lots of good places to eat.

Hotels in Baltimore are hit or miss. The prices can be tricky too. I would avoid staying downtown or inner harbor or harbor east. You are far away and it is expensive.

I personally like the Hotel Revival and the prices are usually good. It is gonna be as close to Ottobar as you can get. Has awesome bar/restaurant. There is a new place called Hotel Ulysses, but I have zero idea the price, but it looks amazing. T

The Inn at The Colonnade Baltimore is kind of close but on the JHU campus. It is dated and often very expensive but you get a nice safe location and access to multiple food options (Charles Village, Remington, Hampden)

Seconding Hotel Revival.

The neighborhood around Ottobar is perfectly safe (like, ya know, keep an eye out but don’t worry), but there isn’t much in the way of hotels until you hit Mount Vernon.

Thirding Revival. Reasonable prices, smack in the middle of interesting architecture/famous shit/decent bars and restaurants/, few tourists vs. downtown, and a good community member that supported displaced businesses and ran food giveaways during the pandemic. Hotel Indigo meets many of those criteria as well, though a bit farther from Ottobar.

Ulysses is great. Min 150 a room before fees, maybe more depending on the day of week.

For Ottobar your cheapest and closest option is probably the Motel 6 on North Avenue. Less than a five minute walk, easily. I cannot at all speak to the quality, but it doesn't look like much. I'd personally splurge a bit more, but it is there.

i definitely wouldn't stay in that motel unless i was really desperate, but there's also the biddle st inn not far away in mt vernon thats pretty tiny but mostly rents to traveling nurses and med students

The neighborhoods around ottobar are plenty safe. Look at Airbnbs in Remington and Charles village.

No shame in getting recommendations! I happen to work a block away from Ottobar so I couldn’t help but chime in (despite not commenting on hotels). Anyhoo, there’s good stuff nearby; Ibar for wings, Jong Kak for Korean Bbq, Joe Squared for pizza, Royal Blue for elevated pub fare, 29th St Tavern for classic pub fare, R House for lot’s of choices under one roof. Have fun visiting Bmore!

Cool. Either Joe Squared or Paulie Gee’s for pizza. Paulie Gee’s is in a neighborhood called Hampden, which is fun and walkable with numerous bars, shops and restaurants.

JBGB across the street from Ottobar does pizza too. I can’t speak to the quality but if you’re looking to keep things within walking distance it’s right there.

It's good pizza, at least it has been in my experience. Nicely fermented sourdough crust. Basically across the street from Ottobar.

Colonnade up by jhu, Ulysses, Hyatt revival are all nice/nearish. If you want sub $100 chain hotels, yeah I'd start driving home for more options

Yeah looks like we go near the airport on our way back and there's tons of household name hotels there, so I'm thinking we may just stay there. Depends how early we arrive / how late we get out of the show. Thank you!

Plenty of decent hotels in the city, but unless you have plans to hang out in Baltimore City on Wednesday. I would probably stay at a suburban hotel near Airport or off Route 100 - you will be out of the city already on Wednesday morning to start your trip back. Also, I don't know what parking costs are at the downtown Baltimore hotels, but the suburban hotels will have free parking.

I live like 3 blocks from Ottobar. Lovely safe neighborhood. Also have a private entrance full bath basement I’m working to put on Airbnb which will be cheaper than any hotel.

From Ottobar, drive south into downtown (4-5 miles). There are a multitude of hotels surrounding the Harbor. If you have the money, the Four Seasons is really nice. Marriott Waterfront too.

Not near Ottobar, but the Courtyard by Marriott in McHenry Row in Locust Point is super safe at night in my opinion and it is a fairly new building so the facilities are super up to date and nice

There’s a hotel in Cross keys, which is really not too far away. Way better than staying downtown!
