Archery lessons

My husband has been watching a lot of survival shows lately and has often commented that he would like to learn how to shoot a bow (a recurve bow, not a compound bow). His birthday is coming up and I would love to surprise him with a lesson. Does anyone know of a place that does this? I have googled and can't seem to find any place close-ish. I know there probably isn't anything in the city proper, but would love to find something within an hour's drive. I see plenty of archery ranges, but am having a hard time finding lessons. Even if you have a friend of a friend who might want to earn a little extra cash.

Reach out to David Stradley: airgod7@yahoo.com. He’s got a private range in the area and is a level 3 coach and his rates are stupidly affordable for someone with his resume and certification.

I’ve taken personal lessons and he’s incredible. Within the first hour with him I had corrected a few mechanical issues and was grouping extremely tight at 20 yards. Three classes later and I was getting close to competition level accuracy up to 30 yards.

He also coaches at Lancaster Archery which is the largest archery only store in the US, about 90 minutes from Baltimore. Once your husband is hooked, because he will be, a trip to Lancaster is a must.

Lastly, Vingt Neuf does offer an 8 week family training course three times a year, but their classes fill up super fast (within minutes of opening). It’s mostly kids but they love teaching adults - it’s where I learned before working with Dave.

Happy to share more info on local ranges and whatnot because I also was just a guy who wanted to learn and used local resources to get fairly decent at archery within a few months.

This is EXACTLY what I am looking for. Thank you. I agree he will get hooked. He loves solo sports where the competition is primarily with yourself (he is a life long rock climber) and I think this is about to be his new hobby. I will certainly reach out with any questions.
